State vs State?
There has been a bit of talk about a 'teams championship' in the V8 Supercar series.
I think this is a good idea. But I think the Supercar guys should adopt the states or countries that they come from and have another 'championship within a championship'. State vs State, mate vs mate (well, not in Skaife and Ingall's case). It would fire up the interstate rivalry a bit and add another dimension to the racing. |

Ingall and Skaife might not be mate against mate, but at least they can bring back the biff.

How would you determine what state they belong to?

CAMS defines the place of current residency, which, as drivers tend to live near their teams makes it a very dull Queensland vs Victoria show...... |

From a very reliable sorce that I spoke to yesterday when asked about this his reply was, "A state vs state won't happen as you need at least one team from each state and whilst there currently is no teams from Tassie, WA or NT then it won't happen, however a teams championship could start as early as next year."

The problems with a State rivalry concept is that the majority of teams are either Qld or Victorian based which means that the other states wouldn't stand a chance.

State of origin League seems to work, despite there only being two teams...

AFL State of Origin you will note has died. While there was always plenty of interest in Victoria versus South Australia, Western Australia teams were less enthusiastic and the other states downright disinterested because of poor representation. Even when grouped together as the 'Allies', leading players, most notably Wayne Carey, would feign injuries in order to get out of playing the game. This attitude would later infect the other origin squads and soon public reaction became as disinterested as the players and AFL origin selection dipped beyond relevance, much like the recent Rugby League Kangaroo tour where more than a complete run-on side pulled out of the tour after selection and a skeleton Australia A side was sent to play the Brits. |

What would they do if a driver lived in one state and his team was in another state. Think about Lowndes' situation??

In Rugby League's 'City vs Country', the representitive team you play for is determined by the very first team you play for as a junior. ie; if your first game you played as a kid was for the Dapto Doggies, you'd be a Country boy. But if you played for the Redfern Roughies, you'd be a City fella.
So the state you represent would be where you had your first motor race (which in most people's case would be go-karting). |

RRR: For state of origin I don't believe its junior footy, but first post-junior game.
And as Karts are not considered 'cars' perhaps the definition should be first car race. |
