It will be interesting to see wether they will go for the the rising talent in Coulthard, or the quicker Whincup for the enduros.

Either would make a half decent co-pilot.

I would say 18 degree chev. There would have been a statement in there somewhere if the HMS powerplant was its new donk.

According to Auto-Action it's using the 18 Degree.

Lets hope the VY has some good steps forward for Tasman , I thunk they have done a pretty impressive job in their current VX and with a VY under their belts perhaps trhey are on a more level playing field now.

When do they plan to race introduce the car ?

That'll be the hybrid version, not the blueprint version then?

So that means it will be running the HMS engine then!

HMS produces a VX engine and a VY engine. Depending on your place in the pecking order, you get one or the other.

Until the PWR engine program gets its junk together anyway.

I dont think so Scott75, HMS hasnt supplied anyone outside HRT with Auroras... and Tasman would not be at the very top of the customer list if they chose to do so...

They will probably go for the one with the most money to bring along to the team.
Anyone get any times between the two of them at the test?

Should go for Whincup would be better in the enduros. As for the motor HMS are too busy trying to fix the problems with getting the engine to run well in traffic. Before they let the other teams run them.

Why would Whincup be better - he's crashed the past two Bathursts.

Not saying Coulthard is necessarily the right man either, but Whincup's 'experience' factor doesn't really play in his favour. He certainly won't be getting a good reference from his previous employer. Anyone who read last year's Great Race Yearbook will know what I mean.

Word from the team is that they're pretty happy with both, although Whincup was quicker on the day in testing.

I reckon if you're looking for a bloke to keep your seat warm for the enduros, get Whincup, but if you're looking longer-term at filling a second seat in 2005 then bringing on Coulthard might be the go ...

Depends, I guess, on what other established, coming-out-of-contract drivers out there are interested in the 2nd Tasman seat!

I personally think Fabian would be better off concentrating on the job he has at hand with the GT3 Championship, instead of swapping and changing from car to car. Hes only 21 and could possibly end up back in Europe in Porsches the way he is going at present.

I agree. He's a little too young to give up on the European dream and settle for a ride in the V8s.

Hard to say but behind the scenes maybe those close to the driver have figured that the euro dream is already over and it is time to get a ride back home.

Fabian gave it a go O/S and realised pretty soon it was a unrealistic target....atleast he tried!!!nows hes doing a solid job in porsche's....

Whincup is very underrated and a very talented youngdriver...he is also only 21 and was given a pretty hard time last year, considering it was his first year out of 1600FFord...He has done better than MCconville,Whincup got in the shootout at Winton in the ?@%*box VX of GRM's and got 3 hard charger awards throughout the year...Yes he made the odd, young blood mistake, but dont they all..he did make a mistake at Bathurst, but that was at a pace as quick if not quicker than Tander...

Jamie is certainly a good long term option, and he needs to be given a good go....you dont want to know some of the stories as to how he was treated last year at GRM...

Mr Coulthard was not compared favourably to Mr Whincup in the press release.. to say “Fabian has only driven a V8 Supercar once before, in a test with Larry Perkins, and while he wasn't immediately as quick, he followed instructions well, showed he is a good thinker and returned a very respectable result given his experience.” isnt exactly a glowing recommendation.

Word has it that Whincup has this gig anyway (and it was done before the test!)... so Mr Coulthard can continue his fine turn of speed in the Porsches, and hopefully pick up a better drive elsewhere.
