Engines with secret additive-Coca-Cola

Does anyone remember a team in the V8 Supercar series (I think it was the Bathurst 1000) putting Coca-Cola in the gear box to stop the clutch slipping. Doing research for a movie and would be very grateful for any details.

the clutch is external to the oil in a gearbox is the v8's. hollinger boxes would be no different.

Unless, of course, they had an oil leak onto the clutch and wanted to use the Coke to clean the oil off the clutch plate?

Well apparently Coke is not a bad oil dispersent, so maybe that could have been it. I do remember watching the footage and the pit crew were having a laugh with the TV guys at taking such drastic action. If anyone could remember the team, that would certainly be a help.

They would not have been putting coke in the gearbox to fix the clutch as the clutch is between the engine and gearbox. The best thing for a slipping clutch on a race car is to squirt it with a dry chem fire extinguisher (this is what is common overseas)

I've seen cola sprayed inside a bank ATM, took ages to clean it out using cleaning alcohol. It sets like toffee, so I'd assume it was put in the clutch to try and get the plates to grip.
Warren Luff at Bathurst a few years back also drilled a hole in the bellhousing and dropped bolts in once in an attempt to fix a slipping clutch in his Honda IIRC.

Hrmmm, I remember it. It was at a Super Touring Bathurst, and the coke was used for its sugary sticky qualities on something that escapes me....

Now now, the Super Touring 2002 thread is possibly still going- well and truly outlived the real thing!

Yes try extracting the cash box from an ATM properly without setting off the alarm system when someone spills Coke all over the keyboard and down the door in an effort to 'short' the alarm

I actually remember something like this going on... but I wouldn't have the foggiest what it was about or when it was...

The one I had to deal with had had Coke sprayed in through the slot where your card goes in. Jamed everything up well & good.
I guess another satisfied customer....NOT!
