Alexis Mk 17

One of the more intractable car identities for early Atlantic cars in the UK is proving to be Stephen Choularton's first car, an Alexis Mk17 in 1971.

This car had previous in 1970 as one of several cars run by Alexis for people like Ken Sedgley, Dick Barker, Ken Bailey. Either two or three were built and I believe that Choularton's car may have been used by Sedgley.

Can anyone add anything, did anyone [perhaps F1R in their F3 book] note the chassis numbers for the 1970 F3 cars

Chris

There are 2 pictures of the MK 17 in F3 trim here: http://www.f3history.co.uk/ (click on manufacturers, Alexis, etc....) I have a picture of the Chassis tag for MK 17 Chassis #1. I will post it here if I can figure out how. I think that only one works MK 17 was built. I will have to go back and check my notes. I have two Alexis Chassis' and am always interested in sharing/learning more about them. What other information are you seeking? All for the moment, Scott

There were two Mk17s in the race at Mallory Park 30 March 1970, for Sedgley [described as ex Barker] and Bailey. Presumably Barker's is the older car as it had been used by him in late 69. But at Silverstone 26 April 70 we have Bailey plus Taylor in a car described as 'ex Crook'. This has to be a 1969 car, but both Barker and Crook appear at Mallory, 10 August 1969. So are there two cars:
Crook - Bailey - Taylor
Barker - Sedgley - Bailey
Or does Bailey have a new car [03] for 1970 and the works spread the 1969 cars between Sedgley and Taylor?

Scott, does the chassis tag for Mk17 #1 say that? I know that Alexis had a different numbering system for their cars in the 1960s.

Chris

Alexis MK 17

Chris, The Chassis tag reads: Alexis Cars LTD, Chassis No: AT/F3-MK 17/1 Jan 70. So I assume chassis #1 - Built 1970, It could be that some of these other chassis were actually MK 18's with F3 motors? I still need to check notes and try to get a pic posted or emailed........All for the moment. Scott

Lost records

Just had an email from Ken Bailey's son David and unfortunately Ken has no records of chassis numbers available. His history of this period is scant with just a few photographs of the cars.

Colour schema from Ken Baileys MK 17

Have anyone Pictures from Ken Baileys 1970 MK17 ?
Have the MK17 and the MK18 FF the same Body ? - I meen the MK 17 have not the same front suspension as the MK 18 FF .
What Engines was installed in the MK 17 - only the 1000 ccm F3 Engine or other Engines later in his life ?
Have anyone the adress from Ken Bailey or the other Alexis F3 riders ?

Team Alexis

Does anyone have any information on Team Alexis when they ran the Mk17 F3 cars?

Alexis Mk 17

Today I have seen an Arch Motors invoice for the three MK17 F3 chassis. They were delivered to Alexis in April 1968. The chassis were AM 81, AM82 and AM83. The "8" shows it was a 1968 built chassis.
