Waterproof Seat Covers

No - we are not talking about those times when you are on post miles from a toilet!

At last year's 24 Hr race at Silverstone (Friday) we got very, very wet and had to get in the car in the waterproofs to drive to lodgings in that condition - not good with cloth seat covers and even worse if they are leather.

We were staying with the Whitlocks and, fortunately, Sue provided black bin liners to cover the front seats for the rest of the weekend and beyond - to stop us getting damp while the seats themselves dried out.

Lo and behold! - Woolworths are currently selling a 2-pack of waterproof seat covers for £5.99 (1/2 price). We have ours and we are mentioning them here because YOU NEVER KNOW when you might need 'em, so why not make the most of a bargain.

We haven't dared unfold them (in case we can't get them back in the pack once "re-folded") but they do feel pretty thick and of reasonable waterproof quality.

This is a public information thread on behalf of.........

Some of us prefer to keep the bin liners in all the time!
Adds to the value of the car!

As I've just aquired a sports car, perhaps I need to get a cover for the passenger seat!

To add to the myth, a chap from the Peterborough Motor Club phoned me this morning & asked if I'd like to Clerk (with Julian) their meeting @ Silverstone, I said yes as long as the Course Car they provide is at least as good (& fast) as last years Lancer Evo VIII. He promised it would be - You have been warned!!

OK - I can't get away without saying it (though I tried) - why, Dave, do you need a waterproof cover for the passenger seat only? Not a comment on your driving style/capabilities, surely!

Bill tells me you've got an MX5 - do you have room for a passenger??????

Luv&kisses

Not an MX5 (to small & hairdressery) but a MX6, I bought it off fellow Clerk, John Smith, who's bought another one, same colour but newer. So @ 750 & HSCC meetings next year, you could do a double take!

The reason for the cover for the passenger seat shouldn't need explaing - anyone who did laps of Silverstone with me last year in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo8 or Cadwell in the mid-engined Clio, will explain.

MX6 = Saloon in our book. It doesn't have a roof that comes off.

By the way - I pick up my "hairdresser car" on Friday and, despite both you and Bill claiming it's not a real "sports car", anything that only has 2 seats plus a fold-down (in my case metal) roof qualifies as "sports" in my book and, having enjoyed the original car so much, the replacement is going to be a further joy - leather, heated seats and all....

I hope you'll enjoy it & have fun in it, if you ever need a car to chase, you only have to say!

I suggest you keep Mr T away from it though.

Oh yes it does - it's just a little bit more difficult......first find your rescue unit!

Reminiscent of the NEC a lot of years ago, I was siting in a 2CV race car, and the only was I could get out was by crawling out of the passenger side door, much to the amusement of a large crowd.

1. Did you ever need an excuse to "chase me"?????

2. I have to have him as a named driver, otherwise I couldn't have a post-meeting drink at Mallory or Oulton!

By the way, has anyone actually gone out there to Woolies and bought said seat covers that were the original topic of this thread?

And, if you have, have you dared to take them out and try them and what do you think?
