Given that the NEC Show ran with the same promoters and other shows are running, it does seem odd but perhaps there is a back story and COVID is getting the blame.

The wording of their statement makes me think the venue are insisting on restrictions/limitations which the organisers aren't prepared to accept.

You may well be right. The MG Spares Day in Feb has moved to Telford.
Was there not an issue with losing some land to HS2?

I assume that there are deadlines for intermediate payments to the venue; maybe one was due but the number of stalls/ exhibitors signed up was well down on previous years and they just couldn’t take the risk of continuing to plan (and pay out) when they were not confident of getting the numbers of stands required?

At the NEC they cut the number of car club stands and other stands down to increase the aisles to 4m wide and make more room generally.

It may be that to achieve this at RR and perhaps cap the visitor numbers as well makes the event less viable? Much smaller halls and Stoneleigh and a few 'pinch points' from one building to another.

Remembering the temperature of "The Outer Darkness" where we used to have our stand, I'm sure that Covid would have a field day as we all huddle together for warmth!
