can you see this? its a new deflector - man these cars are too dependant on aero grip - i say add mechanical grip and get rid of aero grip!!!

Great picture. BAR had something similar in Monaco.

In fact, BAR used it here in hungary too.
By the way, it seems that Prost's financial woes do not get in the way of their aero-add ons. Look at their rear and front wing! Prost Hungary Aero Pic#1 Prost Hungary Aero Pic #2 Benetton used a Ferrari-like shaped front wing too. I believe a couple more new add ons would pop out in qualifyings today from other teams~ Last edited by Gt_R; 18 Aug 2001 at 01:05. |

I don't get it, earlier on in the year all the teams were complaining that the raised from Wing for 2001 made the cars understeer, now we see Prost and other teams bringing out new front wings to run in Monaco and Hungary?
My question is, if they suffering from understeer, why don't they use the "bigger" front wings everywhere? |

Put simply, before somebody gives you a detailed explanation...
Its a compromise in downforce, aero-efficiency, and if the normal front wings can do the job sufficiently. It is easy to identify the difference in basic aero package changes. Ferrari for example uses a 3 plane front wing in Monaco and Hungary, a 2 plane front wing in Hockenheim basically. But the level of frontal downforce could also change with modifications to the end plates etc, thus its just fiddling around to see which setup provides the best balance. |
