I've got a picture of the car out of the 1987 Great Race book on my other computer. I'll put it up this afternoon. By the way, a couple of days ago I stumbled across your post on one of the other forums about when you purchased the Eggenberger car. Did you ever find out about its racing history?

Have you noticed any differences in the front fenders of the three cars?

Awesome collection there.
Some Allan Moffat fans put together a web site not long ago, which I believe gained the assistance of Allan directly: http://www.allanmoffat.com.au/again/...ossysierra.htm It may be worthwhile using the 'contact' section to ask for direct assistance. Otherwise you will need a copy of the book 'The Great Race 1987/88' by Bill Tuckey. This has a bit of background plus many photos. This will only be available second hand, and will mostly involve regular checking of eBay. |

It will be great to see another Sierra restored to it's former glory (not that this particular car had that much success in that paint scheme )
Was the car used at Bathurst the same car that Rouse had campaigned throughout the 1987 WTCC with Thierry Tassin, in red colours? Where did the car go after Calder 1987? There was talk that it would stay in Australia for Allan Moffat to use in 1988, but Moffat ended up with an Eggenberger Sierra fresh from the Monza opener to the 1988 ETC. There was some suggestion that the ex-Moffat/Rouse/Tassin chassis came back to Australia as the #105 Brad Jones Mobil Sierra in 1989.... but the chassis numbers were not recorded/communicated as well as today....

Hi Martin,
I was at Bathurst in '87 and took lots of photos. I've just looked and probably have at least a dozen of the ANZ car, including a nice one of it on two wheels through Reid Park. Also shots of the Texaco Sierra's as well. Send me a mail to nev@zip.com.au and we'll go from there. Rgds, Nev |

I seem to recall that the ANZ Sierra at Bathurst in 87 was RHD, with the white car pictured clearly LHD. The ANZ car was the same chassis that Rouse had been using in earlier rounds of the WTCC. It had originally been entered at Bathurst as # 8 for Rouse and Tassin. Moffat had entered the same same VL Commodore which he raced at Spa as # 9. The deal for Moffat to run the Sierra was only done very close to the race.
After Calder, NZ and Mt Fuji the car returned to the UK. Moffat purchased a brand new Eggenberger in 88 with another following for Bathurst 89. Both were LHD. Two Rouse Sierras were sold to Peter Brock at the end of 1988 and were both RHD. |

Ah yes, but the Trakstar ex-DJR car was RHD when it went, yet it started life here as a LHD example didnt it?

Rouse did compete at Fuji, co-driving a Japanese owned Sierra to second place in the race, behind the winning Ludwig/Neidzweidz 'legal as of the friday morning' Eggenberger Sierra. |

Would seem to indicate that Rouse was running low on pennies by this stage of the WTCC, and is a logical explanation for the last minute arrangement with Moffat for Bathurst and Calder.
Gravett purchased the first 2 DJR Sierras, one of which was always RHD. Couldn't ever undertand the logic of having one LHD and one RHD car myself. I guess it would have opened up opportunities if there was a benefit in car balance by having the driver on a particular side, but would have made back to back testing. The only other instance I can recall of a team changing sides was the Benson & Hedges team who after running a RHD Sierra in 88, elected to build all future Sierras as LHD. |

hi,
thanks for all the input. the rouse car i have just got. is the spare car he built in 87, plain white and was rhd, chassie number ARE RSC 0587 which transalted is :::: andy rouse engineering/ rouse sport cosworth/fifth car built in 87, rouse originally planed to run two cars for the wtcc in 87, but due to lack of budget, he only ran one car, so this car was a spare car, he rented the car for the spa 24hr in 87 and it came sixth, a few weeks later he done a deal with allan moffat to lease him the car for bathurst, the deal included rouse as co/driver and his crew and spares for the race, all this is confurmed on the moffat web site, moffat also used the car at calder a few weeks later and dnf due to head gasket, the car was then taken back to the uk, and rouse did a deal with alain ferte to co/drive this car for the french championship for the 88 season, they won there class easyally, and only just missed the championship outright to a class B runner, the car at some time racing in france after 88 was converted to lhd, the guy i bought it off, got it from france about four years ago, as he bought it back to the uk, he did not even know it was a rouse car, and had taken it as part of a dept, it was his intention to restor the car and then sell it, but after four years of storage, he gave up, i am going to return the car back to rhd when time allows, but for now i am busy getting it ready to race this year in the uk, when i bough it i spoke to rouse and he confurmed that it was his car he used in france for the 88 season, it was only later that i asked him whot it did in 87, and he told me the above, his 87 car that he used in the uk championship was the same spec but painted in his colours, and as such it made sence for him to use this car, that was just sat in his workshop, hope that clear that up! |

As i heard it those running Sierras in LHD form did so because of the nature of Aussie tracks. They thought that LHD as far as balance goes (driver weight on left hand side) better suited our tracks.
