CTCRC Oulton Park 22nd September
Well we are now heading into the penultimate meeting of the CTCRC season and the action is sure to be closer than ever with all of the clubs championships competing as normal, including:
Classic & Historic Touring Cars (Pre 66) Post Historic Touring Cars (Pre 74) Group One Touring Cars (Pre 83) Pre 93 Touring Cars (Pre 93) Blue Oval Saloons (Fords) Classic Thunder Saloons So if you intend on entering, get your entries in now and be part of what could be one of the meetings of the year on one of the best tracks in the country! A yet to be confirmed bonus is that the meeting will be run on the famous International circuit including the shell hairpin! (stay tuned for more info on this) |

Yes, it is on the International circuit - I wouldn't call it a "bonus" as the International circuit is used for just about every meeting other than BTCC!

Yes but is it the one that includes Shell Oil bend as I have also been several times with the club on the 'Long' circuit only to have to do that ridiculous hairpin about 500 yards short of Shell and that just completly messes my lap up in a big powerful car slowing the thing down then struggling to get the power down out the hairpin instead of sweeping round the banked bend at Shell.

It's your choice to race the bloody thing Al!
Sounds like you should take it to America - they have plenty of tracks there with banked left-hand corners, straights and bugger all else. |

Chris the fact that I choose to race the 'thing' is neither here nor there, some tracks suit the 'thing' some don't and sharp right hand hairpins with 18 plus stone of me sitting on the left hand side don't. I suppose you just want a field of euro boxes headed by Escorts and BMW's then? Tell you what I don't know what you race but if you are at Donington at the weekend pop over and see how much attention my machine gets more than whatever you are racing I'll wager, thats why I race it as you may notice I use it for advertising. OH BTW Donington is a good track for the ' bloody thing' so was Oulton before they gelded it now not worth the 200 mile journey!
BTW 2 have you driven Daytona road course? I have and suggest you try it and some of the other wonderful circuits Stateside. Why else would Cliff Ryan and others spend so much money to race them? Last edited by Al Weyman; 11 Sep 2012 at 10:37. |

Look above your post for someone who races a big-engined car with lots of horsepower, but isn't moaning in pretty much every single post.

lads this is a thread about Oulton park, not a *****ing session.
And Chris I see no need for your comments about al, just seems like your trying to provoke the man. Mike |

Al, I agree the full circuit is the only way, the horrible hairpin they put in for the btcc totally spoils the flow of the circuit & missis out some of the best bits, should be banned

Me too, Al. The last time I raced there with that using that ****e hairpin I vowed never to use that layout again.. No matter who says what I bet the shorter circuit will be used next week?

You cannot compare the two cars, one is a modern design with up to date technology in all areas , the other is a 60s carried on design which is best described as an old ill handling slug and Al does bloody well to do what he does with it. As he says what do you race, and I feel I can comment as we are leading a BARC championship at the mo.

Ha ha you are so right, Andy Robinson's car is a slick shod ex Aussie Tourer which probably has over £200,000 spent on it over time, I have looked over the car and you may as well compare chalk with cheese. Mine is a converted 1986 road car utilising all original suspension points, all steel panels and original glass, converted to manual with a 4 speed Muncie gearbox of 1970's vintage (yep 4 speed none of yer 6 speed sequential stuff here) original rear axle and a self built 5.7 litre engine with a big old Holley carb (no race fuel injection setup, no managment system), car runs on track day Toyo's mounted of Jag XJS wheels (£250 a set from ebay lol). Its never had a Touring car engineer within a 100 miles of it and is 100% self prepared so yeah I dont think I do too bad with it.
Getting back to the post I have spoke with Andy Johnson today and he has confirmed that indeed it is the Shell Oils layout. |

And you can guarantee every Marshal at Oulton will show their appreciation by giving a wave or a thumbs up to every competitor after the chequered flag on Saturday

Mark, that Skyline of yours is an awesome bit of kit but do you compete in any series where there are cars of similar power & you can actually have a race instead of just blowing everyone into the weeds up the straights?
I'm not having a go as you can obviously peddle the thing but surely it would be more fun if you had some competition? Last edited by Bomber604; 26 Sep 2012 at 08:36. |
