Naca style air intake in a flat bottom

Not long ago I have seen a sport car (similar to... lets say a Radical) with flat bottom that had a Naca style air intake in a flat bottom to refrigerate rear brakes.

Initially I laught thinking that was a mistake because the flat bottom area is low pressure - high speed zone and also because those ducts disturb the air going to the rear diffuser.

Some weeks later chatting with the car builder he told me those gave them good results... any thoughts on why would somebody put that thing there???

That NACA duct should increase the pressure and slow the air so that it'll work with the brake cooling. NACA ducts are surprisingly good at diverting air with very little turbulence to the remaining air, and so would have a very small negative effect on the diffuser.
