What if Lauda manages to beat PDLR and Irvine.
He said he will try hard to beat them on the test drive on Jan 13. What if he does?
What would be the implications for Schumacher who needed Irvine to be his slave by contract? What would the "old timers were better" say? What do you expect to be a reasonably good time for Lauda compared to that of Irvine? -Faster. -Slower Within the second. -Between 1 - 2 seconds. -More than 2 seconds. Well for starters Lauda will be driving the R2 and not the R3. I also doubt that he would, even if he could, push it hard. So it's most probably he will lap a couple of seconds off the pace.

This could be very interesting. On the one hand, Lauda has said that a monkey could drive a modern F1 car. At the press conference, he downplayed it: "I said every monkey could drive a Formula One car so I see myself as a monkey too."
For his part, Irvine joked, "We're going to need to put an even smaller steering wheel on to get it past his belly. ... It's been a long time since he's been in a Formula One car. I've driven cars from his era and it was like driving in a saloon car, you know. They were so easy, it was incredible. I think it'll be an eye-opener for him." I'm with Fast Eddie on this. Modern drivers, like most athletes, are generally better than their predecessors. Certainly today's drivers are better trained and in better shape, and Lauda's reflexes aren't what they used to be. Lauda won't come close to a competitive time. |

If he gets even within a few seconds of the regular drivers it will just show how much of a farce F1 really has become.
But I've got a feeling that fitness may get the better of him, but I'd love him to show up the two "stars"! |

I'd love to see Niki go quicker than Irv and PDLR but realistically I think he'll probably be at least 3-4 secs off the pace. Max Biaggi drove a Ferrari a year or two ago and was only three secs off a decent time. Did Colin McRae drive a Jordan or a Stewart a while ago too??? Anyone got any details???
Go Niki go... Show the "young" pups how its done!!! |

Can't see him coming anywhere close - but it would be highly amusing if he did!

I bet Nicky was glad he didn't have to ride along!
P.S. I think Prost could beat half the current field in equal equipment. I'd love to see him race Lauda in the old Ferraris! |

Alain was racing in the nineties and retired at his top - he could have gone a couple more rounds before retiring. On the other hand, Niki came from the seventies era, and his fitness, form, experience, is long forgotten. TIME is very unforgiving. If Niki comes within 3 seconds of the other two, I'll jump into the Brisbane River.
That is not to say that I don't admire Niki, who I consider to be one of the bravest F1 drivers ever. Don't forget, the current cars are totally different from Niki's era. OK, make that 5 seconds. |
