The Motor Six Hour Races at Brands Hatch 62 & 63
Anyone out there got any info or pics of these two races.I'm especially interested in the VX-490's that competed.I know Bill Blydenstein ran one in 63,and.two others in 62. Any members as old as me that date back that far?

Hi Viva. Welcome to Ten-Tenths. I do not have any photos as far as I know, but there is short coverage of one of these races on video. It was very very wet, with three Galaxies on the front row, one driven by Gurney.
Featured on the PP video 'Motor Racing 60s style' 1961&1962 or the 1963/64 version. Not sure which but I can check for you later. Probably '63 as Galaxies are featured. I know the bookshop at Brands stocks them, also available from PP Video in Hereford. |

Fr ank told me he got his copy, but Zefarelly, you seem to be hard to get to for some reason.I've tried that other address you gave , so maybe better luck this time.I'm sorry about the quality of the photos , but thats the best my scanner could manage.Must have something to do with 1960's printing technology.Good copyright protection! And yes Zef.,I do have 63 VX-490.Strictly a road car, although it has done a few hillclimbs and sprints since I got it in 96.My son has a 64 Viva, which is getting to be pretty full on and recording some reasonable lap times at Oran Park and Wakefield Park in supersprints. He's 20 years old and hasn't got a lot of dough to throw at it,but,it gets a bit quicker each time out. That chap you spoke of with the 490 over there would it be Lloyd McNeill? He got some press coverage in a mag last year. The coverage stopped so I stopped buying the mag.Have fun Zefa when you come down to Oz in March, theres an historic meeting at Oran Park about that time.Should be a Few Cortina GT's having a skid around.See ya..........

Oran Park historics will be held the weekend 20 / 21 March. The photos you sent me of your Cortina GT look great, but, you've sure got some midnight oil to burn to get it ready for March 13 testing! Good luck with that one,it's a bare shell.Hope you enjoyed reading about the way things were in 1963.One more thing, how come your garage is so tidy.

Viva . . . .its a new workshop at the bottom of the garden . . . .you should see the lock up where most of my bits are stored, its a single garage, has a twin axle trailer, spare 2 door GT, 3 other cars running gear, roll cage, push bike, 8 wheels bla bla bla . . .you have to be a good climber to get anything !
the shell now has suspension, steering, roll cage, back axle casing brakes this weekend and back on wheels hopefully thanks for the dates |
