Bsb: Reynolds Breaks Leg!

Quote:

Rizla Suzuki's British Superbike Champion John Reynolds broke his right leg during his first day at the teams first test this year at the Valencia circuit in Spain.

JR was nearing the end of his first day of testing on the all-new GSX-R1000K5 when he slid off at turn six of the 4.005km long Valencia circuit. He has broken the Tibia and Fibula in his right leg. He was transferred to Valencia General Hospital where he is now receiving treatment.

It is currently unclear how long he will be unable to ride his BSB machine, but he is likely to miss the first race of the season on March 28th.

However new team racer Smart enjoyed his first day riding for Rizla Suzuki and is looking forward to continuing with the final day of the test tomorrow.

"We spent most of my first day with Rizla Suzuki getting the GSX-R1000 to fit me," commented Scotty. "It is a tiny bike and was set up for a smaller rider, so we moved the handlebars, seat and footpegs quite a bit and I am much more comfortable now.

"We made some significant changes to the suspension this afternoon and by the time we had that sorted I was pretty tired and we decided to call it a day. It means I have a bike with a good base setting that I am looking forward to riding tomorrow.

"I am gutted for JR breaking his leg. I know the team are sorting out the best medical care possible for him and I wish him a very speedy recovery."

Meanwhile team manager Robert Wicks admitted that finding the right course of treatment for JR was a priority.

"We are marshalling every resource we have to make sure JR makes as quick a recovery as possible," commented Wicks. "Right now we are consulting with the hospital doctors and viewing X-rays to determine the best treatment for him.

"Scott had a very productive day and we have sent him to bed early - as our only rider on track tomorrow, he's going to have his work cut out getting through everything that needs to be tested. The whole Rizla Suzuki squad has dug deep today through some difficult circumstances and I am proud of every single person," he concluded.
Poor old JR - always has been a bit injury prone though. Hopefully he WILL make a recovery in time for the opening BSB round at Brands but im not holding my breath.

ATF should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Bad news - stuff like this always happens to him and it's struck him before the season has even started this year! Would be a miracle for him to start the season so Suzuki should give Gregorio Lavilla another opportunity and then keep him on as a 3rd bike!!!

Lavilla's the logical favourite to replace him, but maybe he'll be busy with testing the MotoGP machine pre-season. From an emotional standpoint I'd love to see Kagayama come back for a few races but I accept that it's unlikely.

Terrible luck for Reynolds, but at least it didn't happen while he was set for the title as in the past. The danger is that he's not as young as he was and might take longer to recover than would really give him a chance of the title.

How about Go-Show? Bad luck John, but he'll still nail it this year!

At least it was now, and not at, say Rockingham with the title "In the bag" though.

I agree with the thoughts about Greg Lavilla, he was superb at Thruxton last year, possibly one of the rides of theseaon, but i am not sure how close he still is to Suzuki, not even sure if he is still involved with them mhe was touting round for rides quite a bit wasnt he in the winter!
I dont think he has been testing the GP bike at Sepang or anything so maybe his contrct with Suzuki has been ended.
But looks like they think John might be OK for most of the season so you never know he might pull of a miracle and get to on the early rounds anyway. Never write off JR remember Brands last year, nearly winning a race with abust collarbone, and dont think Denning is not still around eitehr, it is still his team and his company doing the work!

I was really gutted when I heard this, all we can do is wish John a quick recovery. He's certainly one of the bravest guys going when it comes to riding injured, so his absence may not be too lengthy.
