Wirdheim will likely get the gig at the new Fittipaldi/Kalkoven team in ChampCar/OWRS

Considering that Bell reneged on his Arden F3000 contract to get the Jaguar drive, I hope he loses it and is shown up for being arrogant and selfish. He's not ready for F1, whereas Bjorn should be after a comfortable title win and one of the rgeat F3000 rookie seasons.

Wirdheim and Jaguar
Jaguar will test Sweden's F3000 Champion Bjorn Wirdheim in Spain next week.
And, according to Swedish newspaper Expressen from today it's a done deal. It's in swedish but they say that Wirdheim will be announced as third driver for Jaguar. http://www.expressen.se/index.jsp?a=99882 Great news |

How ironic! Argentinian press said that José MarÃ*a López is also in negotiations to be the third driver of Jaguar (or Minardi) this year. Nonetheless he is pursuing a seat in F3000 or World Series...

But, Jaguar have announced that Wirdheim will be taking part in the team’s Barcelona test next week.
If his test session success, he may be in line for the role of Jaguar’s reserve drive. |

£££££ is likely to come into it, Jag wanted a payed second driver so its likely they would try to get any money they could.
Ford dont have the commitment to put in the £££ needed to be a top team, imho they'll run midfield for about 3 more seasons before Ford lose interest completely. |

When will an F3000 champ get into a race-seat straight after he's won the title????
Wirdheim shouldn't be testing, he should be RACING!!! |

It'd be better than to have him twiddling his thumbs for a year, but I was sorta hoping the role would go to Bell. Would be nice to have an American driving an F1 car...

Nicke...with Wirdhiem's backing the '3rd Man' Friday test job is his...the test must be a mere formality!
However I hope Jaguar give other worthy drivers a test run like Alan van der Merwe...who did such an impecable job beating all the highly touted 'Super brats' in British F3. Attention Monderators!...Why have you let 'Led ZeppF1 to post a similar Wirhiem Jag thread a day after I started this one? |

Anyway. Yes I agree, with the new third driver testing rules it looks like he may be Jaguar Racings choice after they failed to get the rule changed for Justin recently. |

Last years F3000 crowd really wasn't a bumper crop was it.
I mean Wirhiem really hasn't excelled in anything before hand and his only challenge at one point was....Kiesa. |

Good on Wirdheim. I'd still rather have Justin, but it's not possible.

I agree with Rennen that Alan van der Merwe deserves an F1 test.
He won the British F3 cahmpionship in a pretty convincing manner in a competitive year. Took 9 wins which should have been 11( he donated Thruxton to Green and Donington to Piquet),5 poles and 6 fastest laps including at least one new lap record. The field in 03 was also pretty decent. I believe he was in the frame to test for Jaguar, but something went wrong???I hope he gets his chance soon. |

Wirdheim gets third Jaguar seat
From the latest issue of Autosport:
"Wirdheim gets Jag role F3000 Champion Björn Wirdheim pulled off a major surprise this week when he secured the high-profile third driver seat at Jaguar. The Swede was chosen after weeks of speculation linking the Friday practice role with both J Wilson and T Bell. He was expected to join Jaguar for his first run in the car at Valencia in Spain this week..." |

Fantastic news for Bjorn, who is undoubtedly an up and coming star. His domination of F3000 was very impressive, and he hhas a lot to offer Formula 1. Let's see if he can match Klien's pace?
