SJWBallistic should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Another hot sunny day for theClassic and Modern Festival of Motorsport at Mallory Park.
A mix of historic and classic cars and bikes and some more modern machinery.

I was racing in the Cooper 500 again and had a reasonably successful day finishing both 15 minute races with 5th and 4th overall.

Thought the day went well, with no incidents and some cracking racing,
I particularly enjoyed the 3 Aerial Atoms & the Escort playing together.

I went along to this.

Some of the entries were a little poor.

And although the Atom race was fine, quite why the factest things there were allowed on track with two ridiculously slow C1's and Smart cars I don't know. Practice looked like an accident waiting to happen and looked rather dangerous to me.

But for 13 quid you can go wrong really, hope the event grows.

Bikes were superb

Couldn't agree more with the comments. I thought it was a cracking little clubbie meeting. As usual with this sort of thing you don't get the cut and thrust of single make stuff but the variety of machinery blatting round makes up for it.

The Lansdowne bikes were absolutely magnificent - surely one of the best classic bike series.

The Atoms and C1/Smart car speed differentials were alarming - lappery after 2 1/2 laps! The backmarkers did an absolutely amazing job of keeping out of the way until a mis-understanding on who was going where at the Devils Elbow brought the last race to a close. Hopefully not much damage.

I really enjoyed it and hope it's now a regular fixture.

That's the plan and we're also having a think about the speed differences probably losing the 'slower cars'.

I think to be fair once that series gets up to speed and there are a few more entries, they should be asked to perhaps go elsewhere, there seem to be a few series for small, little cars like that now that offer them more than enough track time.

Please name these series for small cars where they can get plenty of track time. That's the type of event sadly lacking in this country. Most are mostly multi classes with the smallest now being upto 1600cc.

I was entered in a small car, Clan Crusader, and actually qualified 7th in the British Thoroughbreds and Classic Challenge but unfortunately suffered a terminal overheating problem and was unable to take up my grid place. I would also like to correct the commentators comment that I had been loosing oil in qualification. It was in fact water.

Getting back to the event it had a real 'Clubbie' atmosphere, particularly to the competitors and I would like to thank all the organisers, officials and marshals. Being greeted by the marshal in the holding area with my christian name reminded me of what I have missed about Mallory.

Well done all,

Pete Richards

Jasper

I was talking specifically about the C1's and Smart cars they were at a long endurance race recently were they not?

I sympathise with you but after all it's your choice to race that car, I am sure if you wanted more race mileage you could choose to drive something like that.

and hey. its an Imp after all, isn't overheating what they do!

I was surprised by the difference in the paddock . Complete lack of large motorhomes, so space to spare . Bikes were amazing and fitted in really well .
really good meeting , well done all .

Good point! It felt just like the old days didn't it? I reckon we'd have fitted right in - we sometimes feel rather out of it these days turning up with tow car, trailer, race car, tools. I think my brother would have entered but he wasn't available this weekend. Next time then!

I think if they can attract that vibe and sort of competitor then they are onto a potential winner.

Bizarrely the older cars looked to have better entries than the newer stuff! Maybe too many series as usual catering for anything.

Nice to hear an old short oval man Pete Stevens is behind it aswell, he will know more about promotion and value than most circuit racing types.

Im a bit confused as to why this is entitled UK MOTORSPORT.... it was a 360 MRC meeting promoted by RC in conjunction with CMMC

I think the meeting was and will continue to be a great clubby type event, I was also surprised by the amount of spectators there, yes the weather played a part I am sure, but also it had a bit of everything for every one.

.
"UKMOTORSPORT" is part of Richard's e-mail address and that may be the source of the confusion?
