""I'm not convinced that Las Vegas is an open-wheel market,""
-Hmm, if it were Cart, would the crowds still get dwarfed by nascar crowds? Or could it be the IRL's fault why people don't want to see the race?

Is it going to be a night race again? Would that sort of thing hinder the crowd at all do you think?

I wonder how many electronic advertisements will have to be put over empty stands like there were at Phoenix.

Was it my imagination or were there more Unsers there than fans ? Congrats to Al anyway. Watch him at Indy .

I think there could be several reasons to attribute to the lack of fans in the stands....

1.) CART just ran it's Long Beach GP the week-end before. Perhaps 'some' would've ventured to Vegas if the race weren't a week later.

2.) Promotion- how well did the IRL promote the race in the Southwest?? Does anyone know?

3.) Easter week-end....not exactly the best week-end for many to get to Vegas, especially to see a race.

4.) Maybe there really aren't any IRL fans in the Southwest, even though attendance has slowly risen at Phoenix.

and not to mention that Las Vegas has been 'flooded' with motorsports activity in the last month......NASCAR Winston Cup & Busch races, the NHRA last wek-end.....Vegas fans are probably just flat-out burned-out.(if for a racing fan that's possible!)

It could be that it is just the (lower case letters intentional) irl.

Maybe there aren't any Formula Tony fans outside of Indianapolis.

mapguy,
You gots that right. Although in Indianapolis, among the casual fans, there are more Indy 500 fans than there are CART or irl fans. Most of them don't know the difference. Many of the women that go to the irl500 are there to cheer for the "pretty blue car". Many of the men wonder why there are no Chevys in the field any more. Sad...

I've always felt that most people who attend the irl500 are place fans, not race fans. Why else could you explain the attendance at the other irl races?

- I guess i would have to say that that is correct. It would based on what we think, but what are the facts behind poor attendances at the other IRL races??
