David Heynes RIP
A tragic end to the British GP weekend. The following report comes from AUTOSPORT.com
"Silverstone officials have confirmed that historic sportscar driver David Heynes was killed in a heavy crash during the BRDC Historic Sportscar race that supported the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Northamptonshire circuit today (Sunday). The 56-year-old Briton was competing in the event, the final race of the day, in a 1958 Lotus 15. He went off the track at Becketts, crashing heavily into the tyre barriers. Heynes was pronounced dead in Silverstone's medical centre after receiving treatment both there and at the scene of the accident," I extend my condolenses to family and friends. |

I don't believe it - I am assuming this is the David Heynes who was heavily involved in Aston Martins and use to race at the AMOC meetings. This is awful news. My condolences to all his family and my thoughts with the marshals, rescue and medical teams who I am sure did their very best as always.

And after Stephen got that lunatic off the track, you'd think the day would end on a good note...
My condolences go to that man's family and friends as well. R.I.P. |

He was a true Gentleman Driver and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was one of the people that got me into Historic Sportscars.
I was chatting with him before the race and cannot believe what has happened. His family are very much in my thoughts. |

Bad end to gp weekend
From autosport.com
--- Driver killed in Silverstone historic race Death in final race of day mars grand prix meeting Silverstone officials have confirmed that historic sportscar driver David Heynes was killed in a heavy crash during the BRDC Historic Sportscar race that supported the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Northamptonshire circuit today (Sunday). The 56-year-old Britonm from Buckland in Oxfordshire, was competing in the event, the final race of the day, in a 1958 Lotus 15. He went off the track at Becketts, crashing heavily into the tyre barriers. Heynes was pronounced dead in Silverstone's medical centre after receiving treatment both there and at the scene of the accident. --- From Club I had no idea that this had happened until this morning when I checked the internet, so obviously very shocked & stunned. You don't expect that at a GP meeting, and given the way that the historic race had progressed I had thought that it was a good hard fought race without serious incident. Sincere condolences to family & friends. Alan |

Very shocking, my father was in the race and word in the paddock after and (I think) a statement from the MSA suggested that he had a heart attack which caused the car to crash in the way it did. Thoughts are with his family..

Was this race run in particularly hot conditions...I heard that Frank Sytner had to be taken to hospital, after collapsing on the podium suffering from, dehydration..is that correct?
If so could this have played a contributing factor to this tragedy? |

I echo the above sentiments.
FYI: It was hot, but I don't think it was that hot. |

As there is now an official RIP thread for poor David in the Tributes forum, I'm closing this one and sending it along for the mods to merge there.

would this be better for discussion of the implications and causes rather than take up space on the RIP thread?

It appears the driver suffered a heart attack. you cant take into account something like that happening, just lucky his car didn't collect anyone else.

I've no idea what the implications are or the causes were. If there is something arising out of it which is relevant either to Sportscars or to Historic Racing, I guess there is no problem with that, but as a straight tribute/condolence (which is what it has largely been thus far), I think it's in the right place.
