Traction & Launch Control
Has anyone had any experience with traction control and launch control (eg. Racelogic)??
Was it worth the cash and effort? Anyone running with it at the moment?? |

I have had experience with launch control, it can be very good, particluarly for setting the revs on the start line, say 4k, and the leaving your finger on the button until the tires grip. Its not that expensive (under £100) and not that hard to fit.

launch control, not traction control. Outside the reals of F1 launch control is usually just a rev limiter whih can be activated at lower revs at the touch of a button. I assume it is legal in FF, although I don't currently use it.

Are you all mad?
Launch/traction control should be banned in F1 (but thats not motorsport, so who cares anyway) and any driver who uses it in club sport should be drummed out of the brownies. And the same goes for any other kind of driver aid in this category. I want to see drivers who can drive and that means get all the pedals and both their hands working together in the right way. I'm not interested in electronics and computer control (that's the sort of thing which pays me during the week). I want to see how real men and women can drive better than me and how their skills can make me feel that getting out of bed early at the weekends remains worthwhile and fun (apart from the company of my fellow marshals). Launch control - you muppets. Not joking but not getting at individuals (well not much). Regards Jim |

Why can't you just hold the throttle at the right angle so you get the right RPM? That's free and I will never break.

I was enquiring out of general interest. I can see its benefits in regards to safety in the wet and was wondering whether anyone had used it previously. I agree it should not be something that becomes standard, but would be of use in certain situations.
Just sounds like fun really..... some people need to lighten up a bit |

Sorry. Don't see the fun in having a computer drive the car for you.

The only experince Ive had of traction control is driving my dad's new Vectra, it was in the wet too. Got to say it did make quite a differnce compared to a standard car say a Mondeo, dosent make things quite as intresting though.
P.S Anyone who has a chance to drive the new 2003, 2.2sri Vectra dont pass it up, the sequential gearbox and traction control are a lot of fun. |

Thought about the sequential on mine (2.2 DTi SRi) but tried it on a demo and it was **** slow to change and killed the performance/economy over the manual

ah his is a petrol version, and is non turbo. With the traction control and sequential gearbox though it was quite a bit faster than the manual version of the 2.2i petrol version.
I tell u though, the car sure does go, the offical specs for the car is 0-60mph in 7.0 seconds, which isnt bad for a regular saloon. U mentioned it was to slow to change gear, I take it u was using a H pattern gearbox then? One thing is for sure a sequential is always faster.. |
