wasn't IRL pulling the plug and the government not going to do the track just for V8's?
i like the callendar though, good having winton earlier for better weather and also interesting swapping Tassy and WA. |

Who thinks it's a good idea to schedule a race in Tasmania on the last day of Autumn?

I thought the same thing - I said to a mate on msn - they might have to attach an ice scraper to the front of the safety car.

Some archive trawling found the BigPond Sport reporter Brian Gunthar doing crystal ball like predictions on 11/08/2008. There is also this post which hinted at the real dates of one round in particular, which makes some of us out here wonder, why the smokescreen? Do VESA really think that those that are close to the series, and those who are casual observers will ever trust anything they publish in the future It seems that the "facts" that come out of Chez VESA & BigPond Sport are as rubbery as their official crowd figures. Quote:
And clearly the IMG-VESA relationship is as frosty as the weather will be at Sandown at the end of July. Some Bureau of Meteorology datafor the Moorabbin Airport weather station. (closest to Sandown) for the month of July Temperature Mean maximum temperature (°C) 13.6 Mean minimum temperature (°C) 6.0 Rainfall Mean rainfall (mm) 63.0 Mean number of days of rain ≥ 1 mm 11.7 If that scheduling doesn't cement the demise of the Sandown race, nothing will. If IMG take another financial hit like they did this year, they will not be interested in promoting it in 2010, and the other 'big' promoter, VESA Events couldn't afford to take a double hit, PI & Sandown. Oh the future of Victorian V8 Supercar events looks a little bit like.. No, hang on, we are beginning to look a bit like NSW, with two "Premier" Events, one steeped in History, and one propped up by Government money. Will Victorial be the same come 2010 ? Here is some crystal balling of my own, for the three Victorian races in 2010:

That last date on the calender should have a large question mark against it. The NSW government lost the by-election in the seat that encompasses the Homebush track. The Green party won in a result that was attributed to a backlash caused by the decision to use Homebush as a motorsport venue. So maybe it ain't all over yet as the new encumbent is dead against it and he is going to do his best to see that it doesn't happen. I still maintane that this attempt to use Homebush will hae repercussions for the rest of the sport.

so do. - increased interest in motorsport - growth in the v8 series including a third manufacturer - increased fields in the lower levels of national series due to increased sponsor expoure - the call for an extra track in sydney that wouldnt happen without this series. now im assuming from your post that you are negative towrds the circuit so maybe you could share your repercussions |

Any 'increse' in the 'lower levels of national series' is NOT a point in favour of V8's - the DECREASE in the number of teams in a category that artificially creates (non) racing should be of major concern to all financially involved in the category (it looked, at one stage, like only 25 cars would start Bathurst - 25 on a 6.5km track...)
Third manufacturer? Must have been a very silent press announcement - oh hang on - do you mean Kia? An 'extra track in Sydney'? Come again? Even if Homebush goes ahead, who will get to user/benefit from the track? Certainly not the 'lower levels of motorsport'. |

these are the potential plusses of what will happne to motorsport as a result of the homebush race. they are not what will happne at the homebush race |

Peckstar, my thoughts on this are in the Homebush thread, to comment any further here would be too far off topic. My comments here on Homebush are direct comments on the calender date and the chances of it actually happening in light of political agendas that have been changed by voters in that seat. Please start another thread if you want me to go down the path you have raised. I would edit the post to remove the line you quoted if I could but for some reason there is no edit function on the post, maybe because I have been a bad boy and got a warning from the mods.
