best of the rest?
I know this topic has probably already been covered, but as Schumacher senior won his 6th championship yesterday, but who for you was the best of the rest?
i think for me it would probably be fernando alonso, as he performed well this year. |

Kimi got the McLaren into title contention when it didn't really deserve to be.
Some good races by a lot of them too. Montoya, Kimi and Alonso continue to come across as drivers with the bag loads of raw talent. Webber got the Jag into qualifying positions (especially on Friday) that it didn't deserve to be too. And Fisichella did wonders in the Jordan (even ignoring his win). There were times when that car lined up in the middle of the grid and Fisi has driven the proverbials of it to get it there. |

How is Kimi Raikkonen in the best of the rest fight though. He was a title challenger. Best of the rest is from after Montoya, surely?

Kimi is out of the title fight now! Montoya was after Indy. Ralf before that. go back to Melbourne and they were all in it. It is just how you define it. Clearly best of the rest after the winnner.

personaly I went on a mixture of the two, I would have liked to see alonso win the WDC (maybe next year?) but I also think he performed well this year. |

It was a year old chassis (proberbly from one of the last races of the season) plugged up to the nines with things stamped MP-18! Best of the rest? refrain from commenting till we see a genuine contender in the Ferrari alongside Michael. |

Kimi was runner-up, so would be a choice for best of the rest.
But he only won one race while JPM, Ralf and Barrichello all won two. Alonso proved he had pace and lots of guts. Webber put the Jaguar in places it should not have been. I’d give them all a prize. |

V it was still a 2yr old chassis and in F1 that's a big deal I know areo and Motor mods came online but it is still a big thing in F1 where new development can mean 10ths if not seconds.
If Kimmi is not to be counted in the Best of the rest then Mark Webber for sure and I'd want to change my vote from Kimmi |

I remember some people telling McLaren had a nice balanced chasis last year, and they only needed more power. Well, that´s what I heard (read) last year. I could be wrong...

Kimi was runner-up in the WDC. What better yardstick on season performance is there?

Kimi.
But Montoya, Alonso, Da Matta and Webber had good seasons as well. An honorable mention for Fisi as well for dragging that Jordan around all year. |

Frankly speaking, Da Matta didn't impress me that much, Bert, I reckon more positive other drivers' season: Button and Wilson
