JLD should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
MSA want to ban the 6R4

taken from www.6r4.info
Quote:
The MSA will be given a propsal in September that effectively bans the 6r4 from single venue rallying from the beginning of 2006 and all National B events from 2007.

We cannot allow this to happen !

Stand by your beds, we need as much lobbying of the Rallies committee as possible. Please find out who your local representative is and give him/her the third degree.

Remember, if you dont do anything, these great cars will all be banned !!!!!!

Someone is having a laugh aren't they, sadly this is ture I have just been reading through the britishrally.co.uk forum and there is someone on the saying that they have spoken to someone for the MSA rallies commitee. It seems that the proposal is to ban WRC cars with active transmission and 6R4's among others from Nat B events from the end of this year, and from Nat A events from the end of 2006.

6r4?
Isn't that the MG Metro, which happens to be my all-time favourite rallycar?

Crazy!

This little nugget comes around every now and then doesnt it!
I see their point in that if you are going to enter a full blown WRC or 6R4 in a single venue it is clear you stand far more chance of winning.
But dont these people see that half the fun of going up against cars like that is that iof you beat them you can say to sponsors or press, "I beat a 100 grand car in my Mk2 Escort or GpN Lancer/Scooby"
I can see where they are coming from after seeing the likes of Pete Lloyd win rally after rally in quicker cars. But then he does put a lot into the sport and it is his business.
Mike Oates always gets my goat aswell! But as I say, if you can beat them then fair play to you.
6R4 banning is a bad idea though because there is now a failry well astablished cottage indusrty around to support the thing. Companies like Priceys place, TAL, and many others would be scuppered.
These whiners at MSA central should get out to a few rallies and see the smile cars like that put on peoples faces before making arbitrary decisions

I really can't see the issue if there is a sensible class structure in the sport. Not following it that closely, I don't know if there is...

Are the 6R4s still running to the same flimsy-plastic bathtub of fuel set-up that saw them banned from world rallying in the 80s.

So if they are going to ban the WRC's and 6R4's will they ban the £60,000 Mk2 Escorts and the like. At the moment there are Mk2 Escorts and Darrians beating some of the WRC's on SV's so where's the problem or are the MSA trying to screw up British rallying again???

Spot on Peter.

I believe that allowing bigger engined cars plus the bike engined cars there are no proper power output checks on these cars and this is what I think has fecked it all up, saying that what difference is there in not allowing these cars on SV events yet they are allowed on the National Tarmac championship?

Cars like the Burton Peugeot 306R4 then Cosworth, David Kynastons Audi A3, Paul Hartfields 306 V8 Audi device, the the 2.5 Metro's and the Millington Engined Escorts and Darrians are not policed properly when it comes to Power output.

But what is the "True" BHP of a WRC car?

If you ban one then ban them all I say

We've competed at single venue events against WR cars, 6R4s, Darrians and various other fancy bits of kit - what's the problem? As far as I'm concerned it's great competing alongside them, we'll never beat them (unless they have problems) but then again we'll never beat lots of the 'lesser' machinery either. At club level surely it's all about just being there and having fun? And fun certainly covers watching and hearing 6R4s in full flight.

The 6R4 is an absolute classic and one of the iconic cars of British rallying - keep em running I say

If you look closely at a 6R4 you will see it wasnt a "Flimsy bathtub" but a dam safe car if not the safest of the Group B cars that has steel box section with steel inner panels with only the box arches, hatch and bonnet that where lightweight

britians attempts at group B cars were safe in there construction, I've got video evidence of the Rs200 with standing heavy impacts and keeping its general shape without crushin/folding up.

Restrictors, limitations, regulations. I hate most of them, I hate the 300 bhp mark. That's probably the reason track days will be much bigger in the future and will attackt more and more crowd....
