Southern Man should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Have both Hampton Downs and the Taupo circuit been sold?

Strong rumours around the Otago Rally at the weekend that both these circuits have a new owner

I was chatting to a share holder of Taupo circuit just the other day and he didnt mention it.

Tenders close for Hampton Downs on the 17th April (Unless Sold Prior). So it would have to be a very good offer or there was no other interest if it is sold.

It is the body corporate AGM for HD on Wednesday. Needless to say, the apartment owners who were the initial investors in HD, are keen to know what is happening, as there are issues regarding any potential sale, but there haven't been any rumours around here, other than we do know there has been a lot of interest, both local and overseas.

Just returned from the AGM.

HD has NOT been sold.

Tenders don't close until April 17th.

Chris and Tony are not obliged to accept the highest or any offer.

They are determined to see the complex finished as planned.

We knew the track was operating at profit and has been for the last 18 months so it is not a fire sale.

In simple terms, it needs a cash injection to get the track extension (a money earner) built to give the three circuit configurations (compared to Pukekohe's 1 of course!) plus the control tower and permanent hospitality suites. In no way has track construction ever been compromised by the ongoing financial battles, though landscaping plans had to be scaled back.

I hope that clears that up. We can all guess that Tony Quinn isn't out of the loop either, as the Highland Park and HD tracks are totally different from a business and potential income perspective.

Does anybody have any information on What Happened After Tenders Closed for HD on the 17th.
When they opened the Tender Box did anything fall out?

Quite a bit of interest and negotiations are ongoing.

Alan Dick's 'Oversteer' automotive Facebook page posted this message this evening:

"HAMPTON DOWNS
Word is that a consortium of Australians has bought Hampton Downs, outbidding a consortium of Kiwis. The Australian group does NOT include Tony Quinn. Does anyone know anything of this Australian group?"

More unsubstantiated rumours I suspect. As soon as you see "word is", either the poster knows a lot more than they are letting on, or are just publishing a story.

We have already had rumours to say that Tony Quinn and Kim dot.com have purchased it...

Word is that former Prime Minister Helen Clark and her finance minister, Dr Cullen, have probably purchased it, to atone for her government's expensive opposition to the initial project and will donate all profits to the NZ pension fund, as that will appease many of the NZ posters on here, who are already pensioners - or are rapidly nearing that status - and it will encourage them to vote for a change of government.

I thought posting that the source was Alan Dick was enough of a grain of salt

No! Haven't you seen that video clip he made where he beats Kimi Raikkonen around the Nurburgring?

Half the video being in fast-forward probably explains the time

Yes after Parekura Horomia's recent departure, both he and Gerry Brownlee should be sweating (even more than they probably already do...)

That is classic. the Michelin man exists! My god he moves around a fair bit in that car, its like watching a beach ball in the boot of a car.

Still, must be a petrolhead then. Maybe he could buy HD? At least there would always be free wifi at the venue, oh and of course a 'cloud' where you can upload things mega.

Interesting too that the merc he is driving has a NZ number plate.....so he takes his toys overseas to do these things. oh to have that much money
