I expect Graham De Looze will have something to say about this, but I desperately want to build a spaceframe Mini for the road.
Steel-bodied, but very light, I need the ins 'n' outs of pick-up points and tube diameters, where to triangulate for strength vs. weight, etc, etc. Every race-car show I go to, every motoring bookshop I pass, I always ask if they can recommend any books on the subject. " A.. Space..frame you say? Anything like a climbing frame?" Fools! That's why I need your help. I haven't tried Amazon, (if only 'cos I ain't got a credit card, see?) Anywhere you'd like to recommend? Do you have a book on the subject? HELP! |

I have a book called "The Design of Racing Sportscars" or something close to that, by Colin Campbell. Its late '70's vintage, and has much more than just tube-frame construction info, but it may offer a clue or two for you.
If I havent packed it away (getting ready to move), I will try to get the ISBN for you...or...perhaps I can include it in my offer to lend you Hunt's book. Two for the price of one! I'll let you know if I can find it. |

Hi,
You could try the book by Costin & Phipps (name of book escapes me). It is excellent, though dated but deals with the fundamentals. Alternatively, you could consult an aerospace book such as Bruhn, though this is very mathematical & technical. Not for a non-engineer. Lastly, you could trawl through old issues of Cars & Cars Conversions (CCC), which a couple of years ago didn't let an issue pass without some article on KAD Spaceframe minis (Damn Japanese will buy anything :-) ) |

Sparks,
I found that book by Colin Campbell. I dont think it will be of much help. The chapter on frames and chassis is very general. It describes various frame construction methods but does not offer the detail you need for your project. |
