Marussia, powered by Ferrari.
Marussia F1 have announced a long-term powertrain partnership with Scuderia Ferrari effective from 2014.
Andy Webb, CEO, Marussia F1 Team “The Marussia F1 Team is delighted to be entering into a technical partnership with Scuderia Ferrari for the supply of a full powertrain from 2014. The importance of this development to our Team cannot be overstated. Not only will we benefit from a customer supply from the most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One’s history, but this also provides further confirmation, if it were needed, of our commitment to the sport and determination to maintain our progression towards our long-term ambitions. The new powertrain regulations being introduced next year represent the most substantial engine development within the sport since the introduction of the V8 formula and are all the more significant for the increased contribution of the Energy Recovery System. We look forward to working with Scuderia Ferrari during this exciting new era of Formula One competition. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Cosworth, with whom we have partnered since our debut season in 2010. We have shared an important part of our Team’s journey together and Cosworth have been an integral part of our clear progression. We will continue to work together during the latter half of the season to ensure we all achieve our combined objectives before Cosworth leave the sport.” http://www.marussiaf1team.com/news/847/ |

Don't forget there could also be an empty seat (or two) at Sauber next year.
Effectively two Russian teams then, both Ferrari powered in 2014. Hmmm.. |

More news from Marussia. Technical Consultant Pat Symonds is to leave the team with immediate effect.
Symonds will join Williams in August. |

think you're overestimating the financial input the sirotkins are having at sauber slightly it is a curious coincidence though. perhaps marussia are angling for a road car engine to go with their sports cars that don't really exist yet?

This also 100% confirms the departure of Cosworth from F1 at the end of this season.

No way. If Massa won't stay in Ferrari from 2014, he might try another top team or simply retire.

Very sad. But the regulations are now much more aimed at actual car manufacturers than engine builders. Cosworth also does stuff for other industries, so it's unlikely to go bust or anything (fingers crossed).

I think Cosworth is structured in such a way that F1 probably is not necessary to provide Cosworth's core turnover. KK qwns a large part of it and it probably has developed heaps of other not racing technical turnover plus industry research and development so doesn't need F1 to survive.

Maybe Cosworth will come back in a few years, with a carmaker's assistance. Is there another Colin Chapman willing to ask Ford to help fund the turbo 1.6 version of the DFV? Its a good solution for Marussia meanwhile to have the whole drivetrain/transmission/KERS sourced externally, from a top team. Their focus now can be the chassis, the aero & keeping the sponsors amused... and the rest is someone else's worry |
