Coming Viper Coupe FIA GT2 ?
Source:
Other good news came at the eve of the Valencia round from Dodge Motorsport Europe, as the American carmaker confirmed it is developing a FIA GT2 version of its FIA GT3 Viper Coupe and will provide technical and logistical assistance to all its client teams wishing to make the category switch. Racing Box is the first team that has made public its interest for the new car and hopes to be able to race it in the last event of the year in Barcelona next 11-12 November http://gtsport.es/ ( http://gtsport.es/indexIng.asp ) and : http://www.gt-eins.at/cms/index.php |

Think thats a good way. GT1 makes so sense anymore with no GT1 in mostly every national european GT championship.
The Viper GT3 wasnt much slower than other GT2 cars in GT Open. Dont know, maybe they have to use a smaller restrictor in GT2. Think they will get the car on GT2 level without big problems. |

Possibly a return to LM then? It's a shame that it's not a GT1 program though - i'd like to see some real Vette/Aston competition.

Such a car is highly unlikely to be passed for ACO homologation, as built off of a GT3 Competition Coupe.

remember there is the new coupe out though, that shares much of it's DNA with that very Competition Coupe. the CC seems to me much akin to the relationship between the Porsche 911 road car and the ACO/FIA race car...

an addition to above... one of the biggest issues however, may be the rear quarter panels, which are still quite different from the road coupe's, and are much more aero efficient it would seem...

I'm sorry but I can't identify (translated) 'rear quarter panels', could you link me any images/url, where I can see these parts (on the road and racing coupe) ?

GT2 probably makes more sense. More potential customers perhaps. GT1 is just too darn expensive.

actually, someone has made a CC street legal. It of course is a one-off, if you want to see pics, let me know...
i do agree that GT2 certainly seems to make more sense especially from a customer programme perspective. GT1 would only make sense if an ORECA type effort was to return... pit pit |

It would be nice to have a Z06, but it would be fantastic to have one of those. Bob Last edited by Adam43; 6 Oct 2006 at 07:46. Reason: Picture tidy, to save scrolling fingers. |

What I've always wondered, is why the road Viper Coupe comes with the old Viper style rear lights, the Competition Coupe's lights are much better.

If i'm not mistaken, part of that reasoning was due to certain issues with rear bumper safety regulations, etc. Also, a lot of the input for the design comes honestly from the Viper community itself, many of which had preferred the style of the old GTS to the new SRT-10 roadster. I think perhaps dodge took this a little far in it's design interperatation and tried to make the rear design a little too much like the older GTS.
I simply adore the Viper, and have worked with them in racing for around 6 years now, including a full season with the ALMS GT1 Viper last year, and would love to see a new and proper programme come to fruition. The Viper is taking the 2007 model year off coincidentally, and is supposed to have quite a few upgrades for 08, including certain bodywork elements. Could we perhaps see the bodywork go more towards what the Comp Coupe shows off, so as to make homologation easier? i know that the ACO and IMSA have approached Dodge about a return, perhaps they are simply killing all perverbial birds with one stone; building a road car to stay a step ahead of competition on the road that has gotten increasingly faster, while at the same time, allowing themselves a more cost effective route to homologating what has already proved to be a potent, effective, and relatively affordable turn-key customer race car in the Comp Coupe? thanks all for your interest, and Bob, i certainly agree about the car above being a fabulous street machine. piacere, pit |

That Comp Coupe Road car looks great. Do you know what city that is in?
I have to wonder about this "GT2" version, and how much D/C is really behind it. This doesn't make much sense from a corporate perspective. The Viper's natural competitor in the market place, and in the hearts of the public is the Corvette. Building a car that is going to get pasted by a Corvette would be something that I think D/C would not look favourable upon. |

Viper in GT2, looks nice, VS F430 & P997...
Will it be an updated version of the GT3 Comp. Coup.? Or a brand new race car made from the basis of the new Viper GTS? I'm really a lover of the new GTS, great look like his older brother. |

Sounds like a good idea, would be very nice to see this car up against the new 997, 430 and Panoz Esprante.

There's a fair amount of jumping the gun here - No FIA GT2 version yet (or at least until 2008 for that matter) - What you are looking at is a GT2 / GTA version for Open GT / Spanish GT regs

What are the chances of being able to see the car running in the G2 class of the FIA GT championship though Graham? It would be eligable, correct?
