Hartley axed by Red Bull?
Heard last night from fairly reliable source that Brednon Hartley was told at Silverstone that he was being dropped by Red Bull.
While this might not be the biggest surprise given that this was meant to a 'make or break' year and he has so far been outperformed by teammate Ricciardo, it does call into question Red Bull's whole young driver programme, and yet again casts a pretty poor light on a certain Dr Marko. There is also a very good article by Joe Saward, saying that the decision was made without the knowledge of the F1 team , for whom Hartley has been doing a good job developing the new car on the simulator... |

Anyway, he's presumably out of a drive in WSR, so that's not really the right place either! |

F1 journos seem to catch up with the anti-Marko campaign.
You could see it coming? Brandon was broken in half last year competing in couple of championships with big pressure For me Jaime jumped him to F1 thanks to his Repsol $$$. |

Brendon was on borrowed time to be honest. Five seasons with Red Bull backing and what was to show for it? Not a lot really, especially in comparison to Alguersuari or Ricciardo.
Don't get me wrong, when everything went right, Hartley would be almost untouchable. He has impressive speed, but is also very inconsistent. I foresee a difficult few months ahead of him. Doubt he has the funds to continue in WSbR, so either he'll dabble in GP3 or just call it a day. |

He might pick up a drive in GP3 because the teams are struggling to fill the required number of seats. That would at least keep him in the public eye for a while.

and also potentially pick up a bargain drive for a while until he can find some personal sponsors from home or europe to support him next year.
it's a shame we won't be able to see how his formula renault 3.5 season would have developed but i've got a feeling the answer would have been "no further than before". perhaps he just needs a bit of help learning how to apply himself properly to driving - i'm sure red bull teach you that sort of thing but they do so with a baseball bat in their hand |

well he had it coming really, it was a make or break season and hes been massively dominated by Ricciardo. It's definitely not good, because getting dropped by redbull spells disaster basically, just look in the past, drivers who got dropped by redbull basically screw their career up. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't race again untill 2011 or doors closed in Europe.

The fat lady aint singing waltzing matilda yet,Red Bull F1 aint about to let the guy who puts the speed in the F1 cars walk, and a lot of teams want to get a driver with that info too, looks like a few aces yet to be played in this saga,or is it a greater sign that Red Bull is about to implode?.

So is Aleshin... and Chandhock and Wickens.... In fact aside from Speed, Maki, and Ammermuller (Who sucked to start with) most of the ex Red Bull drivers are still going pretty well. Red Bull sponsorship does open doors, but there are plenty of drivers doing well without it. |

Regardless, he's had Red Bull foot the bill so far, the experience gained from the endeavours this RB paid for will be valuable when attracting new sponsors. |

he's got a pretty good racing cv too. and it's not like he's average either, perhaps a change in incentive for the rest of the year might help him produce the results again.

Im not so sure he is lacking results, like as if he could do much better than what he has done. I just think Ricciardo has just simply overshadowed him. Got beaten fair and square. In my eye Hartley is good, but he isn't one of the top young guns.

He will probably race in GP3 for someone while searching for GP2 budget to get his career on track.
Btw, do you guys think Red Bull will get rid off in the near future of one of their F1 drivers? I suppose one of the STR drivers will get the kick, but it's not very likely... Nowadays F1 experience is highly valued, so it's a hard decision to promote someone in place of some young experienced driver. So it's not really such a big deal if he's out of Red Bull, they just don't have free F1 seats anymore. |

i reckon they're gonna have a serious issue with what to do with ricciardo if he wins the formula renault 3.5 title this year (unlikely, but possible). they don't really have a gp2 presence, would they resurrect that?
i doubt very much they'd get rid of alguersuari. he's just about everything the red bull brand stands for. |

I think that Hartley is a good, agressive driver with potential but needs a proper coaching environment to channel that agression. I don't understand why a development program would drop a driver mid-season. I understand doing so at the end of the season but not halfway through.
Anyhow, as Robert Wickens has proven, there is life beyond Red Bull. |
