Dixon or Dario for IRL Champ?
With only 5 races to go it has become a very clear 2 horse race for the Championship with Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon left fighting it out.
Who is your pick for the IRL Champ 2007? If you pick other please state driver. |

I want Dario, but Scott has the momentum now, and i cant see him dropping it really, unless he has some bad luck.
Still should be close. Hope we get a final race showdown |

Has anyone got mathematical details on outside chances?

I have a feeling that Dario is gonna pull it off. His confidence has shot up tremendously and it's going to carry through to a championship. If Scott wins, it would not be bad either.
As for outside chances, it seems slim. The two of them are about 100 points ahead of Kanaan and Wheldon.. |

Hmm, let's see.
Dario has the points in the bank, and 3 team mates will could be a big advantage at some point (Marco already moved over from him at The Glen). Scott is the form guy and currently seems to have the best race crew on the grid. 50/50 for me. Of course, I WANT Scott to win. |

Dario still has quite a few points lead, so all things being equal I'd go for Dario. Especially because I think they're both about equal talent wise.

its hard to pick.
both are sensational and a credit to the sport , both drive very fair and have equal strengths and weaknesses. I guess Im going to have to go for Dario because of his points lead , if he can either beat Scott or just keep him in sight he should be able to defend his lead quite well. Either way whomever wins it will be a well deserved champion and im glad it is these two men fighting it out for it. |

I think Dario will take it, the TCG team make too many screw ups in the pits and will cost Scott points before the end of the season.

I hope its Dario...but I fear that Ganassi will once again steal a championship from him...
Or Meira will have a massive, unheard of, come from behind win |

I'm pulling for Dario. He's been here racing for quite a while and he's married to a girl from Tennessee.

I totally respect your decision and Dario deserves to be there but the fact that he has been racing for a while and / or who he is married to should not have any thing to do with it. Just the same as Scott a hell of a nice guy isn't the reason that he gets my vote, being a Kiwi will influence my decision though. |

Dixon for mine. As a Kiwi I'd like to see him pick up a second title, and secure his place in the history of the series.
But could ya get two nicer guys duking it out?? An how can you not be a fan of guy from Scotland with a name like Dario Franchitti? |

Dario probably deserves it more after losing out on the champ car title on tie break (feels like decades ago now) but I still think Dixon will take it in the end - 24 points is hardly a country mile when there are 265 still on the table.
Mathmaticly, anyone down to Carpenter in 14th could still take the crown but for even Kanaan in 3rd to catch up would require something like: Kanaan to finish in 6th at every race. Franchitti not starting any more races. Dixon finishing one race in 5th and not starting any of the remaining 4 races. So if you want to place an outside bet with good odds, I'll be the bookie for you ;-) Last edited by courageous; 1 Aug 2007 at 18:27. |

20 votes to 12 in Dario's favor to take out the title with 5 races to go including this weekends race at Michigan. Dario's is ahead by 24 points.
It will be interesting to see what the votes would be like after this weekend. |

I voted Dario. If he wins he'll give up on the open-wheel non-sense and go real racing in ALMS with his brother.

Well 3 race out and only 8 points in it between Dario and Dixon. Any one care to change your pics?
I'll see if we can get the Poll reset |
