Yoong to race in CART this weekend?
According to Alex Yoongs official website, their's a good race, he will race in CART next weekend.
"I've got my visa ready and am ready to jump into the next plane out of KLIA the moment I get the confirmation. There's a better than good chance that I'll be racing in Monterrey, Mexico this weekend," said Yoong on his website, www.alexyoong.com. “My manager Rick Gorne called to ask me to standby late last night. It will be a great challenge as I've not tested a Champ Car yet and have not been in a real race car since October last year." But for wich team? |

Yeah, I just read that, weird. I don't think we'll see him racing, and if he does, he'll be so slow it won't be funny.

Maybe he'll be waving the flags at the start or finish or something.

Man, this year's CART field is going to turn into a mega-w@nker battle in the back of the F1 grid in the mid-90s.
You have Blockerfeld as Pedro Diniz. Lavin as Taki Inoue. Monteiro as Pedro Lamy. Gonzalez is Jean-Denis Deletrash. Camathias as Gregor Foitek. Lemarie as Paul Belmondo. Hell Herdez already has former Pacific F1 owner Keith Wiggins (who actually isn't bad). Now if only Andrea Moda and Life Racing Engines would make a comeback. |

Why are you aligning drivers with other drivers purely based on their nationality? While a lot of the drivers you name aren't especially good, Haberfeld was mightily quick on his debut, and certainly has potential, Camathias can keep a car on the road - more than can be said for Foitek. Montiero showed real potential on his debut - not sure what more you expected of him in a team that had barely turned a wheel before the meeting.
Yoong may not be the greatest driver, but he (and most of these other guys) are better than Gualter Salles, Arnd Meier, Hiro Matsus*ita (autocensor), and the like. Also, that first sentance simply doesn't make sense - the US education system is clearly worse than we thought. |

Foitek - haven't heard that name mentioned in a while. Johnny Herbert's best mate, wasn't he?

While all the drivers in Mexico will be getting the green flag at the start of the race...Alex Yoong will be getting the yellow.

Actually Aysedasi, having seen the Herbert F3000 crash it looked more Herbert's fault that Foitek's. Basically a racing accident, with no intent or ineptitude involved.
As for the US education system, I've read Michael Moore's Stupid White Men, so I'd believe anything. |

We need money in CART. Yoong brings money. Hopefully he has some talent to bring along too! I'm keeping an open mind about Yoong.

why dont people want him here. as snrub said he brings money. he also brings another car to the series. thats what we need. he's also an ex f1 driver which is what cart needs. the guys who arent good enough for f1 or lost a ride can come to cart. it would be very positive for the series.

In the short term, these guys coming over is positive, but in the long term the series does need at least a few more Americans. And it needs a situation where Americans can get drives without needing CART to fund them - no American, not even Jimmy Vasser, has done that this year - which says a lot about the awful state of US open-wheel racing. Even the IRL has only 3 Americans in front-running contention now.
Atlantics is one problem - as Lee has said, its not a very good series. The young drivers should be looking to F3000, I think the guys in the Red Bull program are in a good position for the future too. The talent is there - Giebler, Speed, Long, Antinucci, as well as Hunter-Reay and Bell, but its hard for them to get sponsorship when most American companies are going for NASCAR. Also, CART has evolved into being a very international championship, and the international junior series like F3000, and the blue-riband F3 races will always feature more talent. That's what team-owners look at. Yoong will at least be a 20th car on the grid, which is good, but his reputation will need improving or else he could be a laughing stock again. Still no word on how this deal would actually come about though, can anyone shed any light? |

He hasn't yet obtained a seat nor put a lap on a champcar, so wait and see, then poke fun if he can't keep up with Gonzalez. To speculate on the question though, I think Forsythe is involved and I think he wants another car to protect Tracy's lead. |

Hey genius, I compared Blockerfeld to Diniz for a reason. They are called pay-drivers that weren't all that bad. Camathias has one good outing in his entire career, which is why I compared him to Foitek. Heck Foitek was actually on pace when he drove against a real field in a year old car. And since when did Taki Inoue become Mexican? Salles was not all that bad. He was not lights-out fast but was never going to achieve legend status like Luiz Garcia Jr. |

Dudes, Yoong is CART material, no offence. He isn't for F1 and has a recklessness suitable to CWS

if cart get 5 to 10 americans in the series that want to stay such as aj allmendinger, they could take on the guys from f3 and the guys who couldnt handle f1. ot would be america vs the world. that would bring A lOt of attention both from the us and world community

Maybe he's driving the #11 car in Mexico.
It's rumoured that Roberto Gonzalez only had a one-off race at Dale Coyne Racing and Alex Yoong might replace him. Last edited by Marcel ten Caat; 18 Mar 2003 at 20:40. |

Is this thread about Alex Yoong getting a Champ Car ride, or who has got the best education system in the civilised World?
