Motors TV
Motors TV have decided not to have freeview channel 413 but to go to subscription. There was no notice to anyone, not on their web site or channel on Monday 28th February. This is the best channel for motorsport i.e. BTCC, V8 Supercars, WSBK, BSB, Formula Renault etc..... Having spent most of the night on the phone trying to ascertain what has happened only to find out that you have to go via a SKY family package with sport costing £19.50 a month and cannot have it as a stand alone package like NASN. This is a great shame that we can no longer watch free high action motorsport. This has certainly ****ed me off and alot of other people I know (see http://www.motorstv.com/forums/read....31&i=183&t=183 ). Any other views on this or ways of getting around having to pay extortionate money to watch other sports/channels that we hold absolutely no interest whatsoever in.

Oh it is part of the SKY Family package? That'll be why I haven't noticed. Do Motors get any money from this? - lets face it they probably need some as the advertising revenue can't be too much. I would also imagine that they don't mind from an audience point of view because most people have the Family package.

i thought summat suss was going on, the sky box went a bit odd on me the other night when i tuned in to MotorsTV. I'm sure they'll be getting the flaming they deserve - paying for it is one thing, but not telling anyone about the change is downright disgusting

I'm not sure Motors should be attacked for this - after all it doesn't directly cost anything to have the channel, over and above a standard Sky Family package.
There are no doubt benefits to Motors from this - but it may be a rights issue - this makes it easier to keep the service only available to the countries Motors have rights for. Anyway, it's a case of "I'm alright, Jack" for me, as I have a subscription, so I'm not fussed. Sorry :| |

That's odd, I always thought it was part of the package, that's one of the reasons I signed up for it!
Ah well, I guess i'll just have to have a gloat since I've still got it. |

They probably reasoned that 'most' people already watching Motors would have the Family pack. I did a little plodding around Sky's website a while ago, and discovered that if you don't have the family pack, then you only get about 3 or 4 channels.
I doubt they realised the flaming they'd be getting now. However, I also doubt they'll go back on the decision. I often wondered how they made the channel pay for itself. Back a year or two ago, after about 11pm there was soft p0rn to occupy the airwaves until 7am or so when the teleshopping came on. About a year ago they ditched the p0rn to make way for more motorsport, which was a good idea, but I get the feeling it hurt their revenue stream a little. Also I gather they're going to have to pay more for a few of their programmes in future, hence the need to move to one of Sky's paying packages. Sad, but this is the money-grabbing world we live in. Don't be too harsh on them, they're just trying to survive. Although, a little forward thinking, and an announcement on their part might have been nice. |

I have the family package and so am not effected, I would have thought it was in their interests to let people know so that they might join. I swapped from cable for motors and the interactive sports. Got more for the same price !!!

Yep,that seems to be the case.Still they could have given more notice-I have only heard about this from this thread.
To target the real villans please someone start a campaign to abolish the TV licence. I paid £121 today for a service that provides no motor racing at all. I will gladly give the momey saved to Motors TV! |

It's clear MotorsTV is run on a very tight budget as they seem to put all their money into securing the rights to a wide variety of fantastic series and worry about swank presentation after (or not at all.)
Anything that helps Motors stay on the air and broadcasting everything from dirtcars to ALMS has my vote. |

Just don't complain. At least you can pay and see it, it is completely blacked out for me.

Out of interest, there are nearly 8 million households in the UK and Ireland who subscribe to the Sky Family Pack or higher, and fewer than three quarters of a million who have a satellite system but don't subscribe. The revenue Motors will get from Sky for joining the family pack will only be around £500,000 a month - but that might help them hold onto some of their rights. |

At least they might get rid of those dodgy adverts now. It's difficult trying to explain to your wife your watching a motorsport channel if she walks in when they are on.

Ah,I,see. I'm usually asleep then. They only show repeats of what I have seen earlier anyway. What I have just noticed is they now have more breaks but shorter.

I don't see why people are complaining. Wake up and smell the reality of it all. If it helps them strengthen their coverage of events, then I'm all for it.

I live in a sared house where I can onlget NTL on cable and Motors is not available in the package i buy, or at least not that I am aware of.
Does anyone know if you can request this staion to be added to your set of prgrams on the top box or do you have to be part of the SKY package to get i in the first place. Wondered if there was an wa i could subscribe now rather than be left out as I am at the moment |

there was a post on the motors forum from someone in their management team, explaining thier decision. Part of that said that, currently, only sky family package subscribers can get motorsTV but they are working hard to get it included in all the cables packages (NTL and Telewest) during this year. Whether that is before the season ends or not remains to be seen....
