Pete Howarth should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Renault Laguna

A friend has a Renault Laguna, which locks and unlocks all the doors except the left front. There is no noise from the solenoid, no exterior lock to open with a key, no button to pull on the inside, pulling the interior handle doesn't unlock the door.
Any suggestions before I resort to breaking the interior door panel?

Tell him to sell it. That is my advise to my friend who has a Megane.

If it is like the Megane the doors are prone to collect water in them. The speakers and the electric window motors often fail because of it. I suppose the door locking electrics could suffer too. IIRC it is the window seal that is the problem.

If that is the case it should be relatively easy to fix, but the door will need dismantling.

If it's a Laguna 2 with a key card for the ignition then there's a key that unlocks the passenger door in the card.

I had an 02 Laguna, and what Alan says is true. The key hole is covered by a plastic cover, it pulls of easily using the 'key'.

However, i strongly advise anyone who is unfortunate enough to own a mark 2 Laguna to seriously think about getting rid sharpish. The electrical gremlins are so numerous that its just not worth it.

I hated mine after a year, finally got rid when it went in for new tyres and i was told my two front alloys were warped. that was the end of a long list of problems i had with it.

Most of the electrical problems on the older Laguna's and Megane's were caused by condensation corroding away the fuses and fuse box. I believe( if my memory is working) that the larger high amp fuses had aluminium blades that were notorious for giving trouble.
What always amazes me in the motor trade is WTF do they keep altering things when some parts are reliable and have stood the test of time ?
Keyless entries that seem to be getting the norm can be a real pain sometimes and don't ever lose the card module, unless you don't want to use the car for a few weeks and take out a mortgage to pay for it !!!!!
