ALMS Rnd 3: Mid-Ohio 20-22 May 2005
Infocourse announces Tom Chilton to share the wheel with Shimoda in the Zytek, as an LMP675 again. The car should have a new sponsor.

It will be interesting to see how Tom gets on in a sportscar, I just hope that Zytek have taken enough spare parts as he seems to have a habit of damaging touring cars. He will also have to change his drive style as he is a very aggressive driver, 2 and a bit weeks ago at Thruxton and he was hit the cerbs really hard.

Well for the picture I have to thank my good friend and photographer and ten-tenths member Mike Hoyer. The picture amongst others can be found at www.mdh-photography.co.uk in the 2005 section under the Snetterton test section.

This race is gonna be a cracker!
The battle between Champion, Dyson and Zytek should be something to watch indeed. Last year we had a great battle for pole with about two to three tenths covering the Champion and Dyson cars. Although last year's race was a bit disappointing with the #16 Dyson car failing to make it through the warm-up lap. The Zytek will have a great shot at pole, but not sure how the race will go for them. I give the edge to the home teams Champion and Dyson. Their experience with Mid-Ohio and veteran driver line-ups will be key for the race win. I'm also looking forward to seeing the MC12 be a bit more competitive this weekend. And, will AJR and Panoz resume the battle from Road Atlanta? Hope so! |

The Mid-Ohio Weekend Thread
Things are underway at Mid-Ohio and I have just looked at the time and guess what's fastest, by 0.6 that's right the Zytek. Second up was JJ followed by Weaver.....

I'm really looking forward to this weekend's race. The P1 battle should be fast and furious. Last year's grid shaped up something like this:
http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view...id=9&nid=94889 Pole for last year's race was 1:12.123, which was set by the #16 Dyson car. That is the track record for P1 I believe. The Champion Audi ran second quick with a 1:12.184 with the #20 Dyson car setting a 1:12.372. The Zytek set a 1:12.191 in practice, which is within striking distance of last year's pole! P2 record: #56 Pilbeam MP91-Nissan 1:17.246 GT1 record: #4 C5R 1:18.622 GT2 record: #23 911 GT3 RSR 1:22.909 |

Should be a interesting race if today's times are anything to go by. Three differnt cars in the top three postitions can only be a good thing. The Mazda is starting to close the gap to the Miracle car too, only one 9 tenths off the pace of the Miracle car so far.

The new Goodyear compounds seem to be working well for Intersport and BK. Miracle will need to pick up the pace...

I am surprised one of the Audi's was faster then Dyson 16, and I honestly am surprised at the Zytek pace. I knew it would be fast, but didn't think it would outrun the Dyson Lola, which may be an old design but is certainly well developed. robert |

Well both Dyson cars and the Champion Audi were in the low 12s last year for qualifying. So I'd say there is more to come from them. Hard to know what the teams were working on, ie what fuel loads and tire compounds.
But I agree, the Intersport car continues to fly. I was hoping to see ACEMCO with a better time than they posted. Same with the Pacific Coast car. GT2 looks to be hotly contested as usual. |

Mod's note : we already have a dedicated thread about the ALMS Mid-Ohio week-end. I merged the threads.
If you feel the need, you still could open a special thread for the race itself tomorrow (don't forget the usefull links, as live chat or LT&S Kudos to Zytek and the pilots, BTW ! |

Guys,
Yesterday the track was damp and furthermore Shimoda did that fast lap on his 8th lap!!!!!!! I have very little doubt that with a set of qualifying tyres we may be seeing the P1 time drop to below 1.11.0. PS. Great new back wing isnt it! |

fantastic stuff from the Zytek guys... just imagine what Dyson could have done with a pair of these beautiful cars! its going to be a fantastic race with all 5 LMP1s within 2 seconds of eachother. practice today will be more telling of what the rest of the weekend will be like due to the cold and slightly damp conditions yesterday...

No, i think that the session to watch will be qualifying, noone is going to push very hard in practice as noone wants to damage the car and not be able to repair it before qual.

OT : it leads me to the reverse idea : would be god to have a Dyson car as a guest in an LMES race too... if they're not interrested by a 24 hours race, 6 hours is within their reach...
Back to topic : This Zytek as a guest star makes the ALMS event even more exciting... It underlines how boring some other series are... (not talking about endurance here) |

51 Panoz is off just before the Honda Bridge and the red flag is out.
