Welcome Tony, to Ten Tenths and marshalling.
Karen is probably your most sure bet. If you want to be on a post with an examining observer to get a signature remind her I will be back from working CART events and will be pleased to train another Ten Tenths member if you want to join my post. |

Was down for this meeting, but I've now seen the timetable, and I'm withdrawing my support and going to Loton Park or Mallory instead. I think this is the most unreasonable programme I've ever seen, even assuming it runs to time.
Here's a copy of what I've posted in sportscar forum. Some of you may wish to join me at a more marshal-friendly event. Fri 09:00 - 19:00, 12hrs, no break (10 mins between sessions) Sat 09:00 - 19:30, 12½hrs, no break (as above) Sun 09:00 - 18:00 (approx - 13 lapper starting at 17:20) That's 35½ hours in 3 days with no stand down time at all. I haven't included driving time (for me 3hrs towing caravan), putting-up and taking-down time and sign on usually 1¼ hrs before start. I'm doing 3 days at Shelsley the following week, and I have a job the rest of the time, so I'm not going. If anyone wants a good cry, here's the timetable: http://www.tgp-f1.com/files/Doningto...table_2003.doc |

Its nice to see I am not the only person I know who has got ticked off with the ludicrous timetables......Most seem to occur at Donnington........Is there a connection???

The long timetable for me isn't an issue at this meetinbg, its something you have too live with. The FIA sportscar race was put in at the last minute due to Rockingham not having the correct licence. I would have like to have seen a full grid of sports racers running in the evening, it would have made a change from the usual 10 lappers. But there is the crux for me, if you have a look at the previous rounds, at most the FIA championship could only muster was 12 cars. I know we've been there before but for me thats the problem, another s**t grid. I was gonna go, but it will probably be Anglesey, fast & furious motor racing by the sea.

The long timetable is not something I have to live with, because I'm a volunteer, and I'm shortly to become an ex-volunteer. I shall play 750MC at Mallory where they think about us.
If I do 35½ hours at work over a week, Working Time regulations insist I take 2½ hours lunch breaks. If I work 12 hours a day, then it's an hour for lunch, ¼hr in the morning and ½hr in the afternoon. If you do go, I suggest you insist on your reasonable stand down times, but I don't anticipate there being enough marshals to rotate. There's one less now. |

I'm intrigued about the 'Timed unqualifying' on Saturday at 1000 - that's a new one to me.
Guess I won't be there either, to find out what it is! |

I took this sort of attitude with a recent meeting at Donington. My point was over the lack of a guest pass rather than timetables.....but it all boils down to the "Apparent" lack of recognition for Marshals.
I have since been advised that I "May" be taken off the list of Marshals by the organising club for not sending in an apology (Although I did!) Recently I have been at a bit of a low with regard to Marshalling. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE doing it but I have tried to dabble in things that I'm not yet ready for (Maybe never will be)at higher levels within the sport. A couple of comments have knocked my confidence a bit, so I plan to just keep on doing normal marshalling out on the circuit. (Jeeez, get me the Samaritans) Keep The Faith! |

See you there, then. After it's finished we could pop up to Donington and spectate for the last couple of hours.

You're right, it is sad. I hope that doesn't sound like gloating, because it's not. It's just being resigned to the way some organisers think. This is a meeting I really want to do. I love sportscars, the Thoroughbred GPs are great, but it really is a case of enough is enough. I am really not prepared to put up with it anymore, and I shall be writing to the organisers to tell them precisely why I am withdrawing.

Wooley, I was going to PM you, but nothing i will say is private, so..
i am down to work this meeting, 2 days after I return from my latest North American trip. When i said I would do it it was a normal meeting, with lunch breaks and a regular finish. now we all know Donnington & BRDC are a combination which has trouble running ti timetable, but this revised schedule is rediculous for marshals. if this was a commercial operation with paid staff they would be required by law to have 2 breaks of 20 mins morning and afternoon, plus 2 breaks of 1 hour lunch and dinner to work for that period, and those braks must be that, not grabbing a sandwich on post. Do you know who the Chief marshal & clerk of course are? I would like to be able to discuss with them before I simply say I will not be coming, as after all the racing should be good. |

Sorry, Bob, can't find the info. Nothing on the TGP site, and BARC's website is down. I haven't got anywhere to contact in advance, so I'm waiting for the passes and will then return them with a very strong covering letter. I am very disappointed not to be going - these are among my favourite categories - but enough is enough. Come and join us at Mallory (I've volunteered online today) for some good old fashioned 'proper' racing. I'm trying to arrange a marshals' revolt - everyone at Mallory turns up at Donington for the last hour or so and stand opposite race control still in orange! There's a possibility that if everyone will come, there'll be more probans in the spectator area than trackside. Who's up for it?
