Where to buy decent race jack?
Hi guys
I need to buy a new lightweight ali race jack. I have already tried the ~£250 SIP version which blew a seal after 3 meetings. I have since heard from the supplier that ali jacks are notoriously unreliable (and there are a huge number of cheap copies currently floatig about). I am now resigned to having to buy an expensive 'proper' US race jack - Longacre, Intercomp or similar. I know I am paying a certain amount for the brand, but equally they have excellent reputations and spares should be readily available. Other than Demon Theives, does anyone know where I can get one in the UK? Before anyone recommends the steel jobbies, I already have an excellent low entry one in the workshop - but it is far too heavy for my pit crew to lug down to the collection area and/or pits Many thanks Andy |

I got a 4500ib capacity one off eBay, guy in Ireland doing a whole range, I can look it up for you if you like, it could probably be better made but was only £125 inc. or so and will lift a heavy old Camaro, it has a double Piston so lifts quickly. Failing that I see Think Automotive in West London had one on display, a lighter version than mine with a single roller at the front it was about £175 + vat.

Thanks guys
There are plenty of the 'non-branded' jacks about - all marketed as 'race jacks'. A number of people buy them in by the container load and sell them on at a huge discount to the Longacre/Intercomp ones. The problem is they are not the same (albeit they look similar). One frequent problem is they still contain swarf from manufacture and this causes the seals to break down. This is what happened with my SIP one, and although the manufacturer took it back and repaired it, it lost oil pressure again and my confidence evaporated. I want to buy one from a well-known manufacturer so 1) it will hopefully be better engineered and 2) I have some come back if I do have problems. I just can't find anyone in the UK who sells them - other than DT who sell the Intercomp one (£360 + VAT) |

News just in - Demon Tweeks no longer sell the Intercomp jack, sayin it has been discontinued.
They were able to offer me the SIP one as an alternative.... :-( |

Why not buy it in from the states. Get UPS or DHL shipping, they sort out the customs etc.. dead simple. Even a racing driver could do it. (I do!)

we're thinking of getting one for race weekends, so it'll only be used 'part time' surely if the seals fail the thing can be overhauled ?

Zeff I have been using mine in the workshop and it lifts my heavy chevy fine and I have left it up for a period of time (oh Missus) and no drop whatsoever, I think its OK, I will have it with me at Brands.
