A1 Zandvoort - Race weekend thread
Thought it was time for an appropriate thread as the first session kicks off in a couple of hours.
A1 timetable: Friday: 13:00 - 13:25 Official Practice - A1 rookies [1st] 13:35 - 14:00 Official Practice - A1 rookies [1st] 16:00 - 17:00 Official Practice [2nd] Saturday: 11:00 - 12:00 Official Practice [3rd] 14:15 - 14:30 Qualifying Segment 1 14:35 - 14:50 Qualifying Segment 2 14:55 - 15:10 Qualifying Segment 3 15:15 - 15:30 Qualifying Segment 4 Sunday 11:00 - 11:40 A1 Sprint Race [max. 20 min] 15:00 - 16:30 A1 Feature Race [max. 70 min] Looks like we have 23 teams (Turkey appear to have dropped out). Sprint race is a rolling start whereas the Feature is a standing start. Qualifying for the sprint race is same as last year - must set a time in each session; aggregate two best times determine the grid. Qualifying for the feature race is new and hopefully exciting, based on sprint race start position, finishing position and fastest lap time: take your sprint qualifying position (e.g. 4th), sprint finishing position (e.g. 12th) and your ranking on the fastest race lap board (e.g. 7th) and add them together (23 in this case). Driver with the lowest total starts on pole. Sprint points are 6-5-4-3-2-1, Feature 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. |

Thanks for the timing link - there's a spelling error for the Greek driver's name, it should be Takis Kaitatzis.
As for Turkey, no 'source' as such; I just noticed that the flag had been removed from A1GP.com, and this press release says 23 national teams are competing. |

How come Jeroen Bleekemolen can be both a Rookie in this session and the main driver for Team Netherlands this weekend?
Or has Jos Verstappen come to his senses? |

No Adam Khan for Pakistan?

It's what happens when A1GP overlaps with the end of the normal racing season. Other guys are missing because they are at Le Mans for WSR. The same thing will happen at the end of A1GP, because it cuts deep into the start of the regular 2007 season. Further evidence, IMO, of bad planning by the A1GP top brass. There are some really good people at the intermediate level of the organisation, but I doubt if their views are listened to. Edit: Forgot to mention. It is complicated but I quite like it. The problem is actually with the coverage that we might get of the race weekend. On Saturday we'll be watching qualifying but Joe Punter might tune in to watch the race live on Sunday only to find its a different grid because of the Sprint Race that isn't being shown live. Poor planning of the calendar in my view because they surely wanted TV companies to take both races live.

If Singapore run Murcho, they have a chance to do well. i'm also surprised that Pakistan are not running Khan. He was quick towards the end of last year.

If Manning doesn't win both races this weekend (in reverse) he should be sent to redo his driving test !! i thought this was supposed to be competitive, i supose it will be just like his last race in A1 where all of the real drivers had gone off to play with thier new cars.

Manning looks good setting the 2nd fastest time on his 2nd lap.
