Mercedes did nothing wrong though that call for new tires was a bit iffy... but they had the room to do it so why gamble?

Mercedes. Just totally dominant. Plus, they had time for an emergency pitstop for tyres.

Mercs pretty flawless but just to be different I'll give to Williams.

I was going for a comedy Ferrari vote, but couldn't come up with a reason that was comical enough. So, Mercedes.

Merc kind of ruined it for me with the team first approach. of course its a team sport and said approach has helped them become winners but now that the titles were settled i was hoping to see some more freedom in terms of driver strategy.
LH was probably wrong in thinking he didnt need to stop again to cover Nico's stop but i would have liked to see what would have happened on track if he had ignored the advice/order and stayed out. so voted for Williams. |

I further assume both drivers are put on comparable strategies in order to give both the same chance of winning. That's what I would do if I had a frontrunning team monopolizing the front row more often than not. And of course if I had a midfield running team I would put both drivers on a different strategy - as long as there is an alternative strategy that makes sense * 2 pitstops vs 1, 3 pitstops vs 2 (like Perez and Hulkenberg) * hard-soft instead of soft-hard Back to Mercedes: we heard them say to Lewis they were going to Plan B (= 2 stops) It's fairly likely Nico got the same message, and I think it's unlikely he would have stopped (or would have wanted to stop) if Lewis wouldn't. I think putting 1 driver on a different strategy would have given the signal that they preferred another result than what they had (1. Nico, 2 Lewis) and I don't think that would have been very smart to do. A "solution" to that "problem" would be that Nico and his engineer and Lewis and his engineer each make up their own strategy and don't share it. But I don't think that's how Mercedes operates. |

Bit of a leftfield choice but Red Bull have been better of late and got 4th and 5th so felt inclined to vote for them. Probably not team of the race, which is probably Mercedes although perhaps it would have been more exciting if the Brackley-based team let both drivers' race engineers run different strategies, although I completely understand their approach in this race and think it was sound. Anyway, it's late and I feel like giving some credit where it's due elsewhere, so Red Bull it is.

Mercedes - yawn! When will someone challenge them?
Embarrassing Team of the Grand Prix goes once again to McLaren. Every race, the Honda engine makes a leap forward and remains exactly where it was before (at the back). Someone is going to have to fall on the sword, because this is just appalling. I'm beginning to feel sympathy for Ron Dennis (a previously unheard-of sentiment on my part). |
