Round 5: GMR Grand Prix, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. May 13-15.
Round 5: GMR Grand Prix, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. May 13-15.
On October 1, 2013, after a feasibility test in September, it was announced that an IndyCar race for 2014 would be held on the GP Circuit, either as a "doubleheader" event in May prior to the Indy 500, or as a stand-alone race in the fall. Up until the announcement IndyCar hadn't raced on the GP Circuit, though Indy Lights had four times. The inaugural race was held on May 10, 2014 and was won by Simon Pagenaud, driving a Dallara DW12- Honda HI14RTT for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. The race featured a standing start, which was not without incident, when Pole sitter Sebastián Saavedra stalled as the lights went out and his car was hit by Carlos Munoz's and Mikhail Aleshin's cars, showering the track with carbon-fibre and forcing a restart. It was decided that from 2015 onwards the race would have a conventional rolling start. However despite that, the start of each race has barely been without a major incident, the exceptions being 2017 and last year, though in 2019 there was a coming together with O'Ward and Rossi, with Rossi sustaining some damage, forcing him to pit early. Some trivia: Driver with the most wins: Simon Pagenaud, 2014, 2016, 2019 Will Power, 2015, 2017, 2018. Team with the most wins: Team Penske, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 Track layout: The track is a modified version of the circuit previously used for the F1 United States Grand Prix, which was held from 2000 to 2007 and by Moto GP from 2008 to 2015. The race is run clockwise, the opposite direction to the Indianapolis 500. F1 GP Course, 2000-2007: IndyCar Road Course Length: 2.439 Miles (3.925 Km) Turns: 14 Lap record: Will Power, May 12, 2017. 1:07.704, 129.69 mph (208.44 km/h). Team Penske, Dallara DW12-Chevrolet IndyCar V6. Verizon IndyCar Series. Personally think it's lost on the car if you aren't looking for it so a waste, it needs a better contrast in some way. It also seems to be very early 90s to me but not sure why, think it's the color combo. But they are not advertising at all to our eyeballs on the screens. It's 100% to use the still car in medical advertising in offices, magazines and more. But those wacky TV guys and their pearl clutching response to even the slightest hint of bad language on TV because a race driver called a guy who wrecked him an (insert light profanity here) and they have to apologize.
Although, diabetes really needs more ads from people without money asking why insulin costs INSANE amounts and makes profits that make even Pharma Bro wince. It's crazy the secondary market and people starving themselves because they can sell their insulin and test strips for so much on the markets it's not worth using it themselves. Side thought, how does stuff like this fly with the regulators in Europe regarding medical advertising? I know nothing in detail but have read the vast majority of our (insert medical prescription with terrible name here) ads would not be accepted in Europe and UK (listed separately since you copied us and left your overlords because of taxes and oversight , although good job with less bloodshed for now, things could change over fishing I've heard) |

I sure didn't see this coming, Grosjean on the pole:
https://racer.com/2021/05/14/grosjea...le-at-indy-gp/ Harvey and MSR are always strong here and snagged third. Newgarden second, Palou fourth, and McLaughlin and Daly round out the top 6. |

Qualifying result.
I didn't see that coming either. I wonder if tomorrow's race will throw up any surprises? Grosjean's lap time for Pole was up on Power's, from last year's race, who spun during qualifying into the grass to the right of the entry to pit lane stalling the car. His car was undamaged, but IndyCar’s qualifying rules prevented further participation stripping Power of his two best laps, leaving him in P12 for tomorrow's race. Just watched qualifying. Great to see Grosjean get pole. I wonder if he’ll wear the French emblem with a cock on it. Did you know Richard Mille makes a Grosjean watch https://www.richardmille.com/friends...omain-grosjean (That one needs a little more thought) |

A cleanish start, but a bit messy at the back, with a number of drivers going off on the grass and rejoining at Turn 1 but Daly goes off and grinds to a halt, first FCY.

That was a botched stop for Harvey.

Yes, congrats to VeeKay, he's having a helluva season. I feel like they left Grosjean out too long on his first stint though and if they hadn't the race might have had a different outcome.

Well done to Veekay, he's getting better all the time. Good result from Grosjean, he's really getting the hang of Indycars now

Race result:
5 races, 5 different winners. Dixie has had his lead cut to 13 points. I thought the race was a bit slow to get going, the FCY on Lap 1 didn't help but it came alive after the second round of stops. |

Johnson is 45 years old, no experience in single-seaters, so what are the expections? I like him driving in IndyCar and it's a shame he don't drive the Indy 500. He could be good there.

I just watched the race as I had to record it yesterday, it was pretty interesting with only that one yellow at the beginning, and people pitting at all sorts of different intervals. Really impressed with the way Veekay drove. And how Rahal ended up in the top five is beyond me!
Glad to see there is no serious damage to any cars with all the activities coming up for the 500. |
