Who would you like to see on the grid?
What teams/companies/people/countries would you like to see added to F1?
I would love to see a Porsche team. It is unlikely given their current structure, but most of the current manufacturers are there to sell more eurobox cars, which are little more than white goods. Porsche would make a suitable counterpart to Ferrari. In fact, it would be nice to see more teams from smaller manufacturers again as well, some of Spyker's competitors would make for good competition down the grid. I would also like to see more street circuits, as they make for a more interesting course for the spectator. While they're talking about night racing, how about Las Vegas? |

Interesting question...
IN MY OPINION I'd like to see more races in countries that matter. Europe for instance should by rights have the most races as most constructors and engines are based in europe. Do Bahrain, Hungary and Turkey really need races? They don't have any drivers in f1 anyway. Another one in the USA would be good (might create interest for a constructor or engine to get involved). I'd (i'm sure we all would) like to see a variety of engines. V12's, V10's, V8's and V6's as well as Flat 12's etc. Like D-angle suggested street courses would be great. Not flat tracks on wasteland. If this is the pinnacle of motorsport (which I don't believe it is) then provide tracks which challenge the drivers and are risky. I could go on all day about suggestions but this will do. I'd like to see a mixture of engine sizes, particularly V12s, scarlet Ferraris, a Porsche works team and at least one competitive female driver. A race using the Porto street circuit would also be good. Going completely into fantasy a race using the Pescara GP would make for a postive change in my opinion. |

I don't consider it the pinnacle of motorsport, more the pinnacle of cicuit racing. I don't think there is one, but maybe one for each disicpine. Anyway back to the thread, I'd also like to see more privateers who maybe can only afford 1 car in a race. Maybe purchasing an old manufacturer's chassis if they can't afford there own. |

The entries of Spyker and Prodrive are a good sign, that small volume car producers or specialists teams are entering the sports. They would be credible competitors against other "private" entries such as Williams. In fact, that Red Bull is in F1 instead of another mega-manufacturer is also good for F1. However, this risk being ruined by the abuse of "customer car" issues. It's good if Red Bull invest and hire top people like Newey... but if Red Bull start buying off-shelf from Renault/Ferrari/Mclaren, it would be unfortunate.
For drivers, i think we are set for a new wave of drivers coming in soon, and L.H is the start hopefully. I would like to see the front runners of other series making a switch to F1 (eg A1GP, DTM...even if it's Rossi) as well as young prospects. For countries, naturally i would love to see my own be included in the calendar, so that i can watch races without the need to travel too far. But of course, that is provided that the racing is good, in terms of track layout, spectator atmosphere, challenging, on-track action..etc. In short, if the country can contribute and enhance the attractiveness of the calendar. And i won't mind seeing other exotic locations hosting lavish or unique events...but not at the expense of historical tracks like Spa and Monza. |

I'd like to see more cars (perhaps offset by no 3rd cars whatsoever to give more pit room) so that we can still see drivers who have been in F1 for 10 years, but not being pushed out by the latest hot shot rookie who probably wont make it after 2-3 years in F1.

I have to say (really, I do!) that substantially less manufacturer interest is required. We don't need them calling the shots.
F1 would be very good if more limited regs were in place that didn't place so much racing killing premiums on aero and grip. You could still have it at the top of the motorsport tree, have an engineering challenge but without the OTT expense. As has already been said get rid of the cylinder restrictions - I'm sure some of the firms who supply engines would prefer to build a V8 or a 12 because it fits their road car images better and most still don't have V10's in their rnage anyway. Get rid of the 23/24 car limit or whatever it is - if there has to be pre qualifying or bigger grids so what? It means more value for money for spectators over a race weekend! Either that or allow teams to run a 3rd car when they want? I'm not fussed about traditions of circuits. As long as the circuit design is interesting, has a reasonably lengthy lap time, is a challenge for drivers and promotes overtaking, I wouldn't mind if they had a race in the Hebrides! |

I'd like to see a night race, maybe a couple of street races.
Circuit wise, how about Watkins Glen? Laguna raceway? I'd like to see more countries such as New Zealand, Russia, South Africa on the calendar I'd very much like to see 3 car team's but only 2 cars per team can qualify, thus making qualifying more exciting. Also I'd like to see women racing such as katherine Legge. Last edited by MrTTraces; 5 Feb 2007 at 13:02. |

Let teams run anything from one to three cars. Have challenging circuits on the calendar (and get rid of the run-off asphalt). Allow for 27 (or something like that) cars on the grid. If the number of entrants exceed 27, have two qualifying races with half the field in each. More races in Europe.

Ok since we're all wishing. I'd like to see......
No more rent-a-drivers. No-one wants to see the likes of Fauzy pottering around on a Friday in a Spyker, apart from Dutch accountants. Sensible race promotion fees. Mr £cclestone has worked hard in F1 to earn what he has - I would love him to stop treating the sport as a tap he can move wherever the money happens to be. Competetive women drivers. Anything to provide more interest and colour. Less PR-friendly drivers. See above. Everyone should be made to read and digest this page prior to receiving a superlicense. Less big manufacturers and many more smallers ones. Chunterer said it all above. An end to 70 second circuits. They are evil and wrong. Without exception. I'd like to see Ben Edwards around the F1 paddock. (I won't mention James Allen here since I don't want to get the thread closed - form your own opinions....) And finally I'd like Jean Todt to not spout nonsense constantly. Had enough of that last season for a lifetime. That's better - glad i got all that off my chest |

I don't have a problem with new venues like the middle east etc.
But I do think countries with a motor racing heritage should get special consideration. Why is there only one race in South America for example? Argentina must be a huge market. Then there is South Africa, Sweden, Finland, Mexico, Portugal, the list goes on. |

Wishful thinking but I'd love to see Laguna Seca and the old Nurburgring. As for cars, perhaps an Audi team and the return of V12 engines.

Yep, good point, but I'd prefer to see Audi/Lambo/VW whichever VAG brand supply engines as opposed to run their own works effort.
I'd like to see a reduction in manufacturer teams and an increase in teams simply being supplied engines and the safly unavoidable technical gubbins instead. Either that or make it manufacturer teams only series and make them run 3 cars each or 2 teams each? I'd like to see one or two top American squads enter like Penske and Ganassi and/or Newman Haas. I'd also like to see ART step up sooner or later or another leading 'junior' team come in every other year or so. |

Speaking from the evil empire's point of view, I think Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal would increase the viewership (and of course the US $$) to the sport immesurably !
And since this started with a "who" and not a "where," I'll add Watkins Glen as the place. Still big balls, that track! |

the US? it ain't gonna fly with just those two names when the majority thinks that "if it ain't dale, it don't matter"
i was sitting in the stands at indy last year and i couldn't believe the ignorance spewing out of people's mouths at an f1 event. They honestly have NOT A CLUE what's going on. sure there are exceptions; but the exceptions are FAR from the majority |

Other than what it means to the Canadian GP, if F1 never makes it in the USA, frankly, I couldn't care less. More to the point though, what I do hope to see on the grid again, someday, before I die, is another Canadian pilot. |

South Africa deserve a race. Kylami.
Maybe Argentina or Mexico. Imola back. A few more teams so the grid 26 roughly. More independant teams, how I miss Tyrrell, Jordan etc, compared to the car company cars. Ferrari doesn't really count but I'd like to see less. Martin Brundle as leading commentator, with Martin Heaven and Mark Blundell as two supporting commentators. Slicks please. No electronic aids. A restriction on how many races we can have by the same designer so half the rounds are not tilked. (a new phrase ) Keep rules and regs for atleast five years have to be kept and not changed and no rules cannot be changed every year whcih is what happens, only on grounds of safety. |
