Ellery to 888 confirmed

Steve Ellery's move to 888 Engineering has been confirmed. Press release floating around somewhere...

No word yet as to what becomes of Steve Ellery Racing, franchise, dad and crew.

No offence to Steve Ellery meant, but this is a weird decision isn't it?

Radisich has proven that when the car is right he is as good as almost anyone out there.

I'm not a conspiracy theory type of person but there must be more to this than meets the eye surely?

Congratulations to Steve and the whole 888 team. I think this is a great move by both and am sure the he and Lowndes will be a great combo, especially in the enduros. Good luck to all involved.

Expect to see the Franchise spot leased out and SER competing in the V8 Development series.

Whooo!

Triple 8 have gone from my two least favourite drivers in the series to my two favourite in one switcharoo.

(Doh! Spelling.)

Congrats to Steve but I still can't believe the way 888 treated Radisich.

It was nice of him to thank the Ford fans on the podium though, a really nice touch. it made me feel a little better. Good luck to him in 2005, and thanks for everything.

Now that the decision is finally official (another worst kept secret situation) I wonder what there options will be for enduro drivers .... It will be interesting to sea if Dean Canto hangs around or if he will look to the future and see if there is a team prepared tpo commit for the future

While I liked the Rat as a racer I have certainly seen the arrogant side of him in recent times ... I do hope both his luck and attitude change for his new team

Well IRCA was said to have been set to run the Dumbrell option, but since LP has re-signed PD, the other possibilities include Mr D'Alberto (who seems to be getting plenty of track miles these days in all sorts of cars) and Mr Porter, whose Hydraulink dollars would have to be of assistance....

And perhaps in a few years, when Mr Ellery has rounded his skillset, he can return to SER to lead a team into the future

I am still in two minds over the Ellery decsion to 888, I am not sure if he is the right driver for the team. But then who is the best driver for the spot, they have to partner CL and drag the 88/888 car around the track.

It will be interesting to see how ellery goes. He always seems his fastest when the pressure is on him such as when Supercheap were threatening to leave a couple of years ago and he was ultra quick at Bathurst. Hope he can be competitive Vs Lowndes

Rounded his skill-set? He's been in these cars about 9 years now. How much more time does he need to round this skill set? Interesting that all his results have been at tracks where horsepower is the most important factor (Sandown, Bathurst etc). His SER cars have never been short of grunt.

The guy is, at best, a competent driver. Still, I guess $1m from Bruce doesn't hurt Triple 8s bottom line, considering they had to pay Max out his contract, plus penalties.

Shame, I thought of all the teams, Triple 8 would be one of the least likely to take pay-drivers.

I've heard it on a couple of occasions that Ellery paid for the seat - the figure wasn't that high but was still quite large. Anyone else ?

I agrree user... i believe it was actually half that amount. i guess that is why Canto wasnt in the equation.... even if he was prepared to drive for nothing it still wasnt enough to offset max

Ellery got the drive with 888 on pure talent and ability, Take it or leave it. If you cant handle that then dont watch. Trying to assume he is paying for the drive is terrible at the least. He was offered the drive and took it. No more strings attached. I know for a fact if he and his dad had the money you are talking about $500,000.00 he would still be with SER for sure. Some of you people on here had better start to check who your sources are because this gossop of him buying the drive is false. Just get over it and support him and the team, not everyone in motorsport is there because they payed, some actually do have talent.

The Man ... I didnt say he didnt have talent ...

But i do know that a substantioal amount of money was involved.

Stop burying your head in the sand, it happens quite regularly that a team gives a test drive ... say how happy they are and then say if you have $$$$$$ you have the drive .

Money does talk and buy drives!!!!
