Webber gets qualifying penalty
He'll have 1 second added to his final qualifying lap for not lifting off under yellow flags yesterday.
Incidentally, the steward in charge of that decision is the (in)famous Nazir Hoosein... |

Probably won't matter much as the Jag is likely to expire prior to full race distance.

Who's Nazir Hussain/Hoosein?
As Martin Brundle said during quali today, the FIA are absolutely right to take this seriously. The marshals have to be able to trust the drivers to back off and take care under yellows, so they can go trackside in reasonable safety. Apparently Mark set his fastest time of the session on that lap - bit of a giveaway really that he didn't lift. Silly mistake from Mark, and he'll feel a bit foolish as a driver rep at the next safety meeting. I think he'll have learnt his lesson... |

No doubt the Webber crowd here will say it's unfair, but I'm sure Mark will have learned his lesson now. Hope they fined him too.

You wouldn't expect it from Mark. Smacks of frustration...he just can't wait to go to Williams!

Could this have something to do with the crash under yellows at Monaco?
Can you imagine if there had been blokes on the track picking up debris in the tunnel when TGF decided to pull his stunt! |

It's got nothing to do with the crash at Monaco.
If you set a faster sector/lap under yellow flags, you'll always be penalised. Whenever, wherever. |

I agree with k-b. Obviously some of the marshals' exploits at Monaco may have concentrated minds somewhat, but Mark would have got this penalty whatever had happened a week ago.

Who is Hoosein?

Let me put it to you this way...Michael Schumacher has benefited from his complete incompetence on many occasion during his racing career. Maybe someone else would like to state the specifics of Hoosein's rulings over the years, otherwise there will be an uproar. Tye |

I think fans supposed views here are irrelevant, especially when these views are criticised before they have even been said. I think it'd be better discussing the actual issue.
Anyway. I think this is only the second time this rule has been used (1s further back). I don't actually remember it being introduced, but that is a moot point. We could be seeing more of this kind of penalty. I wonder how certain the FIA has to be? I guess they check the telemetry as well as the black box? |
