GT Cup 2019

Right here we go,first thread I have started so bear with me.

Starting it as have grown to have a huge personal interest in GT Cup over the last couple of years.

For anyone who doesnt know much it' for any modern GTs from GT3,GT4,Challenge,Super Trofeo and any other car that fits the regs although last year the championshil did have a invitation V8 Volvo driven by Group C racer Bob Berridge.

Last year some lovely cars from marques such as Mclaren,Aston Martin, Volvo, Lamborghini, TVR,Dodge,Maserati,Ginetta and more.

I'll shortly be putting up a TBA grid .13 confirmed already is great after a hit and miss campaign last year.

Interesting mix of cars for the series, would be great to get at least 20 cars on the list

It certainly is.The grids last year were normally from 15 to 20.The last round at Silverstone had 3 Lamborghini Huracans,650s GT3,Mosler and 20 others GTs .The racing was grewt aswell.Sort of like a Mini British GT

Hi
I run SPY Motorsport which will be running Brent Millage in the series. In 2017 we ran 2 Ginetta G55s for Brent and Dominic Paul and won the GTA class as well as 2nd overall and the team championship. It is a great series and very well organised

Cheers for your input Peter.
Much appreciated.

Any more news on the Championship for this year ie Grid Announcements.

Hoping to go to as many as 5 rounds as long as the entries confirmed hold up throughout the season.

Bute are very good at what they do although the LMP3 Cup didn't work well unfortunately.

Unless I've missed sumthing, has the LMP3 cup been canned for 2019? Will be a pitty if it has, despite lack of entries it was great to watch those cars out on track.

Seems so Craig, the championship website hasn't been updated since the end of last year with no new calendar,no info at all and therenot on the regs for the first round at Donington when all other championships attending are on it.Shame but seems like it.

that seems like a small grid, they usually alternate with british gt for having strong and quiet years don't they?

shame to have lost the spa round too. silverstone national isn't really a great replacement!

Last I heard they said they had quite good numbers for this year so we'll wait and see.Yes a shame to lose Spa but it wasn't I would imagine great financially with them last year only having 12 cars make the trip.Yes an odd one Silverstone.Should have maybe done Oulton Park instead.

there were more than 12 cars at the start of the meeting, iirc there were a few shunts in testing. still, a shame it couldn't continue, whatever the reason. it's a really good series for sensibly priced gt racing, and there's always a good variation of cars.

i've been working on it for the past year and a half, i'm familiar it's one of the best uk series for sure, it's been good to see some reasonable crowds turn out for it. bit of a shame lmp3 never took off.

i was still talking about spa, but in my search for some results to refresh the withered old memory it's raised the point that they don't have any results online for last year away from tsl and it's not on forix either. which is really irritating!

Going on your second point .Spectating at Brands on Saturday which had 20 cars.By Sunday it was 14.Lucky I didnt go that day.
Over Saturday they lost the Huracan ST of Aaron Scott and A Williams.Mclaren 650s GT3,Mosler and the Volvo. Not great really.

thanks for the pointer towards finding the spa results. hopefully the series will finish updating their website before the season starts.

i think in a series like gt cup you’re always going to lose a few between testing and the race. running at a lower cost means fewer parts in stock, fewer staff, that kind of thing. the benefit of not running spa is going to be a lack of euro-mess with brexit so hopefully that’ll be a positive for a few teams looking to run their cars.
