[ALMS] PLM 2012 Entry list discussion/speculation
Let's start this off early. So for this year no ILMC/WEC obviously, but ELMS have just confirmed double points & financial assistance for teams travelling to Road Atlanta. We'll have automatic entries up for grab in ALMS and ELMS championships, and teams can also win an entry by clinching victory in any of the ACO classes. Fantastic!
So let's make an early, speculative list of the entries (that will no doubt look funny in three months time): P1 1x Cytosport HPD ARX 1-2x Dyson Lola Mazda ??? Toyota, Audi, Rebellion, Autocon, any other ??? P2 2x Level 5 HPD ARX 1x Conquest Oak Pesca 0-1x Dempsey Lola 0-2x Oak Racing Oak Pesca 0-1x TDS Oreca 0-1x Murphy Oreca 0-1x Loeb Oreca 0-1x Pecom Oreca 0-1x Greaves Zytek 0-1x Jota Zytek 0-1x Status GP Lola ? Boutsen Oreca ? Race Performance Oreca ? Extreme Limite Norma ? Libra Radical ? Starworks HPD ARX GT 2x P&M Corvette C6.R 2x SRT Viper 2x ESM Ferrari 2x RLL BMW 2x Lizards Porsche 1x Falken Porsche 1x Paul Miller Porsche 1x AJR Lotus 0-1x IMSA Porsche (GTE-AM) 0-1x AF Corse Ferrari (GTE-AM) 0-1x JMW Ferrari ? JMB Ferrari ? Prospeed Porsche (GTE-AM) ? Risi Ferrari ? Krohn Ferrari ? AMR / Fernandes Vantage Add LMPC and GTC later on Oh and could some of the mods add ALMS tag to the thread topic, thanks Last edited by Deleted; 20 Jul 2012 at 17:24. |

Autosport published a rumour that Oreca were thinking of entering as a factory P2 entrant with one car in order to showcase it to the ALMS market. I suspect that with recent developments, that plan's on the back burner if enough Orecas make the trip and show themselves to be competitive.

Assuming that some of the ELMS teams actually turn up (which I think they will) I hope they score them in the same class as the ALMS entries. Sebring was a confusing, idiotic mess with 300 separate categories and sub divisions for cars from different series. Thankfully this isn't WEC and FIA-land though, so we'll probably handle this like in previous years, ie integrate everything.
Automatic invites also mean that youy really cannot have too much separation |

Eh, the Dagys article says that the ELMS teams will score points separately...
Edit: Wasn't Dagy's but rather Endurance Info: Quote:

That car was only supposed to come out at the Aston Martin Festival race at Le Mans, and it didn't even race there (someone crashed into it and shoved a driveshaft into the gearbox). |

I like the sound of this . Road Atlanta sounds like it will be a blast this year .
Like to see some praise for the ACO for trying to do this , after all the negitive comments from across the pond before . |

I thought AJR said some time ago that they might increase to 2 cars (Lotus) for Petit.

A few ELMS teams must be rubbing their hands with glee at the potential overall podium here.
Who knows, a slightly whacky race could even lead to an outwright victory. The racing will be out of this world. If only they slowed down the P1 cars and made it one big prototype category - half the grid would have a chance of victory! |

Entry list looks like a glorified ALMS race...P1 looks bleak and GT looks phenomenal. Fingers crossed we'll have some of the international entries, but won't hold my breath for three months.

They were on the Donington entry list for quite a long time before they withdrew so I was quite hoping to see them again soon. Shame nevertheless, I didn't think the crash was that bad

What is to stip Toyota from entering Petit Lemans instead of some remote race in Bahrain where sponsors get offended and viewership will be low. Petit is looking like a hoot this year. It has alot of marketing potential for them...Vs a race in Bahrain...
America vs Bahrain...You do the math haha. Toyota has nothing to lose in the WEC anyway. They have already lost. Its good for them to do the other rounds but Bahrain doesnt seem high on the priority least. They could run 1 car at Petit. Im certain Toyota North America is looking around for an excuse to promote the brand in NA. |

Agreed but ACO/FIA wouldn't like that move very much... not that they could really do anything as they're way too scared of losing them (again).
It would be the ideal race for Toyota, not only the third biggest event of the sportscar calendar but also a great place for Toyota to see if there's any sense in running the cars in NA. And if they entered for sure we could se Audi returning as well. It's not like there's any championship at stake anymore, well there never was after the certain announcement... The only problem is the close proximity of the Fuji and Shanghai weekends but it's not like either of these participants have problems with cash or logistics |

Petit could be something like the unofficial P2 end-of-season World Cup if the majority of the ELMS teams decide to go there. With double points on offer, there's still everything to play for!
That raises the question: what if most of/all ELMS runners decide to turn up at the Petit, will there be enough space on the grid with around 35 ALMS regulars? |

It took just 4 days for Aston Martin to ship & prep their LMP1 from Silverstone to Laguna Seca last year... they were already testing the car on track @ thursday, having just contested 6 hour race on previous Sunday

Actually, Toyota has a very large potential market in areas of civil unrest. |

Fair. But its probably that Toyota will be rolling out two new chassis fresh from Cologne for the Fuji weekend. They could run one of the test cars at Petit. The only issue being it would be very embarrassing to not win Petit if they enter and there are no Audis. Maybe it won't happen, but, as you can tell, I really want it to happen. |
