Which kind of car shall I buy? Advise here please!
OK, I have a Special Saloons Stiletto at the moment which I am restoring to its former glory, should have it finished by August all going well.
The season starts on the 26th of March. I don't have a car! This will be my 3rd season in a row without a competitive car! I am getting very frustrated! My budget is around £2k, remember it is just a stop gap! Can anyone please advise me on what kind of car I should be looking out for? Before anyone suggests an XR2, I have done a couple of rounds in the XR2 championship in Scotland it is like dodgem cars, My Dad and I hired out a car each and the repair bill after those rounds was over £1k per car! So NO! I dont want to buy a stock hatch! I had my eye on an astra with 220bhp but it has been sold! Please help! |

Nothing too bad!
Smashed front bumpers, lights thats it really! The rest of the damage was inflicted by other people! I have been racing for 6 years this year, my dad has been for 23 years this year, it was the worst standard of driving we had ever witnessed! Truely SHOCKING! |

MGOC Maestros - cars are quite quick and handle well. Spares are cheap, and the cars are easy to work on. Racing is very close but generally very fair. Front runners sell for slightly over 2k. Midfield examples can be had for between £1,000 to £1,800

It would have been a stop-gap for me, too; best thing for you to do is the same as me - actually finish the car you've already got before buying another one! You won't find much for 2k, let alone something competitive. Although there are a couple of XR3s kicking around for small money...... (not mine, i hasten to add) |

Forgot to add that if you get an MGOC Maestro (I'm *not* selling mine, by the way ), you can also race with other Maestros in the CSCC Tin Tops - 40 minute, 2 driver races for entry fees of around £250

Cheers for the ideas guys!
Maestros, maybe too slow for me! I am a car that'll be there or there about! When I had my Fiesta it was great! Had ding-dong battles with other fiestas and metros but now the speed of the race has gone up! My fiesta was sold for next to nothing on ebay by my dad! The xr3s are tempting! |

2 litre Maestros are easily as fast as XR2s, and possibly a lot of XR3s.

andreww you might be lucky! I think they were trying to give us a hard time because we hired the cars and we had never raced in that championship before.
Whose car did you buy? Who is running the car for you? Is this your first season of racing? Have you seen the damage of some of the cars coming off the circuit afterwards! My Dad and I were quoted in Wheelspin (SMRC Newsletter) as saying "the driving left alot to be desired!" ie never again! Ill stick with the Sports n Saloons thanks! |

Rcarr, I know of several MGOC Maestros for sale. There are currently a few for sale. Prices range from £1100, £1250, £1350, £1495, £1750. I'll can PM you later with the details.
If anyone wants to do the 2CV 24hrs, there are a few seats available. I would suggest you contact the organisers quickly. |

Ahhhh!
You've got alot of fun to come then! Trust me when they see your novice squares they'll either avoid you or nudge you! The words baptism of fire spring to mind! You never know you might have to reshell by the middle of the season! BTW it was icr that charged us £1000/car Be careful and good luck! What colour is the car? |

Why not race the fiesta in Scottish sports & saloons. Always seemed much cleaner (though not as close!) racing to me when I watched it and the car would go straight in. (used to spectate/spanner at most rounds, but not seen one for a year or so).

Pete I did that with my 1st fiesta for 3 years, when the lutis and jason donald used to race. It used to be good, until the stupidly fast cars started to race with us! The Lutis and Jason disappeared and I upgraded to my Imp. There is just no one to race against anymore, just John Nathan with a 2l Zetec Escort!

the reason i wouldnt run it in sports and saloons is the idea of multiple classes racing at the same time doesnt appeal to me, u end up only seriously racing a few other cars. Id rather be running against a full size grid of identical cars, much more interesting and competitive and more satisfying when u place highly.
