What do you think about Herbert testing an Arrows again...I think he had a ling carreer and it is over now...a comeback will bring nothing good when done in a mediocre team! Test and Development Driver...he deserves more. Did he loose his pride or why don't he just stop it?
What do you think...should Johnny, who didn't even seem fast anymore in his last few seasons, look for a come back...cause I can't believe he wants to be a tester for long. |

It's simply something he loves doing. If you could continue driving Formula One cars and get payed for it, would you not? I know I certainly would. If he wants to continue testing and arrows want him to test, good for him! Do you remember the rumours there were b4 the start of the season about Mansell making a comeback. Herbert isn't old enough to finish racing yet.

Yes...if it's only cause he loves driving a Formula 1 bolid it's ok....but in this case he will miss competing with other drivers...apart from the lap times measured during testings.
He should go to another racing series though...where a guy with his talent will have fun and success... I wish him good luck and all the best! |

He's quite a bit faster in that Arrows than PdlR and Tomas are in the Jaguar, actually. In fact he is faster in the Arrows than HE was in the Jaguar.
These days a stint as a test driver is an honourable way to keep your name out there and to show you are ready for another offer if it comes. If Johnny wants to keep on driving, and he can get hired, I say he should keep on driving and Godspeed to him too. |

Well put Liz,
Just because your short, have gammy ankles, are a British male in love with a F1 pit reporter doesn't mean... Hang on that's it! It's a legitimate way to spend time with Louise again. |

This is a shame for Johnny because he is a good driver who has fallen on unwarranted hard times YET AGAIN! He is not the washed-up old has-been some have recently been making out. He never seemed to click with the Stewart/Jaguar team and I think it's pretty obvious they only run a one-car-team.
Anyway, I know he wants to race in champ cars now, not F1. So hopefully he can put in a good job testing for Arrows, spurring some team owners in CART to open their eyes! |

It's very simple: he wants to spend more time with his wife and kids, but he does'nt want to miss that F1 feeling, this is the perfect thing for him, and Arrows are on their way up, Jos and Johnny are going to develop that car perfectly.

He's a driver whom I am convinced was far better than the results of his career show. He can offer Arrows feedback based upon years of experience with a wide variety of cars.
I'd have loved to have seen him in CART, bless him for still have the fire to test and enjoy it. |

I'd go from race driver to test driver if I was earning more than the regular drivers for it!
But seriously, Herbert isn't slow. He wasn't one of the quickest out there in his last couple of years, but on his day he could still pull something out of the bag (i.e. European GP 1999). However, I do think that perhaps he should have just retired from F1 completely at the end of last season. His choice though, and I wish him all the best. |

Hey D...the question is not if he's bad or not, but if he's still able to go with the actual Formula-1 standard. I think in the last seasons we saw that his time was over. He can still do great things in other formulas but not in the highest category! I love Herbie, but thats why I don't wanna see him as a tester but racing in another series...especially champ car series.

I think its more of a case that he was tired by the middle of last year: tired of the travling, being away from home and the constant press observation that comes with being an F1 driver. He tried to escape it by moving to the states, but seeing as that didn't work, I feel testing will be his best option. He still gets to indulge in his "hobby" of driving an F1 car, but now he can spend more time relaxing, at home living off his interest!
