Fisi in big massive practice shunt
Hes OK, but got out holding his hand and has now been taken to the medical centre for scans, hopefully be back for qualifying, but boy, that was some crash.
Front wing failure coming over the curbs, understeered off into tyre barrier at what must have been 120+ mph. Last edited by Raven; 20 Jul 2002 at 10:17. |

From what I've read, he's a lucky boy to get out apparently without serious injury, and other than a sore (perhaps broken though) wrist, he could still compete!

Did anybody see the onboard shots from the medical car on Sky? Fisi must have felt alot worse for that ride, the driver wasn't hanging around, maybe they should have been a bit more circumspect!

This could have been a good showing for him too. Sato is in 13th and close to the BAR's. Judging from the qualifying patterns this year Fisi could have had a top ten. Honda also seems to have stepped up the game. Sato was hitting over 300kph into the hairpin. Nice! I have good hope for the race. With luck Sato could be the hero of the day for Jordan. It would definately add to his bid for a second year in F1.

No there not, this is from AUTOSPORT.COM
Fisichella will miss French GP Jordan ace pulled out after shunt Jordan star Giancarlo Fisichella will definitely miss the French Grand Prix following his practice accident on Saturday morning. The Italian was pulled out of qualifying as a precaution despite suffering no physical injuries in the shunt. Jordan had hoped that he would be judged fit after a check up on race morning and would be allowed to start from the back of the grid. But Formula 1 doctor Professor Sid Watkins has decided it would be too risky to allow Fisichella to race. He crashed heavily when the front wing folded underneath the nose of the EJ12 as he was exiting the fast Estoril right-hander. The wing had been loosened in an off on the previous lap. Fisichella hit a tyre wall at around 150mph and endured huge deceleration forces. Professor Watkins judged that it would be too dangeorous for him to drive in case he should take another big hit during the race. The cautious approach follows James Courtney's 180mph shunt in testing at Monza last week. The Jaguar driver also appeared uninjured, but a day later reported that he lost the feeling down one side and was suffering some vision problems. |
