It´s a German championship seemed to DTM. The series have good drivers like Lamy, Cecotto, Lechner,...

I agree the drivers are good, although looking at the series, it dosent seem as though its going to threaten the DTM, ETCC or BTCC for driving talent, in my opinon anyway.

It's an interesting concept. The V8Stars is basically a silhouette, cheaper version of the 90s DTM. In fact, I believe Alfa Romeo or an ex-Alfa team was the one that proposed the series to replace the DTM. Sadly, the other manufacturers didn't like it for some reason? And eventually, the DTM was resurrected in this new CLk/Astra form. Perhaps the manufacturers didn't like it b/c it again required 4 door sedans only while the DTM is open to anything I believe?

I've watched DTM races on tv but never V8Star races so I can't say which one I like better.

it's like a German version of NASCAR, but none of the teams are factory suported, most cars can't even have the names and logo's on the car.

As it's been debated before, it comes down to a simple question--Should motorsports be a "challenge" or "entertainment"? 'Cause if it's entertainment--like watching a movie--it doesn't have to be "sophisticated" or "high tech", as long as the racing is good, the results unpredictable, then that is good enough. If it's supposed to be a "challenge", that's when you don't try to equalize the teams/cars.
I recall reading that supporters and perhaps even the organizers of Nasccar, see themselves as entertaining people. As a result, you have to "equalize" the racing in order to have it appear competitive/exciting. It's like wresting, if it's entertaining, who cares if it is fake?? Or even more extreme, what if the results are rigged? Do you care? Last edited by kmchow; 23 Nov 2002 at 02:09. |

Ive only ever seen highlights of V8 star once, but quite frankly it looked absoloutely stunning the racing is close and all the DTM legends are in it, (well some of them.)

I can spot the Jag clones and the Mondeo-alikes in the V8-star series, but...
What are the other car shapes supposed to be? |

VW Passat, Alfa 156, a Lexus IS300 and/or GS400, Opel Vectra. I think a BMW 5 series was proposed or existed as a prototype, but I don't think it has raced.
