Are the HRT/HSVDT Cars "too fragile"
I have thought about the outcomes of Sunday's Sandown and I am beginning to convince myself that the red stable has quick cars, but they are "fragile".
Prior to Sunday, gearbox failures were "high" Sunday, car 22 got a "knock' over the RHF corner and it was quickly a lap down Car 2 has a "bolt failure" as I understand it and that was on a "gentle" circuit like Sandown. Now years past the AU and BA have had "bolt failures" too but after watching the 88, 888 and 6 cars get pounded over the kerbs without component failure, you would surely expect that the red stable would have made the front ends more robust by now! I'd make sure all the Bunning's Zenith Bolts were sent down to Sims-Metal immediately and then get in a good supply of grade 8+ bolts pronto!! If they don't Bathurst will find out the build deficiencies very very quickly and they will missout dramatically AGAIN. Mike McInerney |

Sandown isn't a "gentle" circuit at all, they pound the drivetrains and the suspension.

Maybe the drivers are driving too hard out of frustration- The frustration of the fact that their cars keep failing which might be because the drivers are driving to hard out of frustration- The frustration of the fact that their cars keep failing...

i have been wondering if maybe the reason the hRT cars are so fast (the hSV cars are not on the same pace) is maybe they are trying some new stuff that makes them go faster, but is causing a few breakdowns
i dont think the hRt cars have gone a round with a failure this year |

At Sandown I was sitting at the end of the back straight....only two cars consistanly hit the rev limiter at the crest of the hill....Skaifes and the Kelly car. The Perkins one did a few times but not as consistanly as the other two. I'm affraid.....if they can hold those Red and Red and black things together you can forget about any other car getting on the podium |

they have a set ratio for each track...thats what all the fuss was about last year when they changed the ratios for Bathurst. All teams agreed to have it changed because they were on the hard cut (rev limiter) for to long and the change would cure that. The talk was they would crack the 300 kmh down conrod.

So everyone considers that the HRT/HSVDT cars have good performance so is that a result of using some weight saving techniques/materials on the 'unsprung components"?
Are these suspension components CFRP or similar and therefore "fragile" for the rigors of Bathurst? Mike |

The gearing is regulated - the rev limiter is also regulated to be a 7500 RPM *maximum*...

Now Tander has a front end failure again. That workshop mole in Tander's Team hasn't been out to the reject bin again and got last year's fragile front suspension components again has he? Mike |

I really really feel sorry for GT today in R1, I only wish that GT problems had happen to mommy's little boy CRASH BANDICOOT.

i feel for GT same time last year his championship started to derail hopefully not again and he can put little brat team mate in his place, but it seems funny that Toll didn't want to discuss publicly the reason for the failure, maybe a misshap in the fitting of the failed part, or maybe just the WP unreliabilty of their quick but breakable parts, abit like the F1 cars Adrian Newey builds.
