European Touring Car Cup - Vallelunga
Anyone know of a possible entry list for this race (on Oct 16th)?
I see from the SEAT site that Plato will be driving a Toledo, along with Balzan (SEAT Italy/Scuderia Girasole), Nykjaer (SEAT Denmark), Laivola (SEAT Finland/), Coronel (SEAT Holland/GR Asia) and Kaye (GR). Any chance of the HPI team making it out there? |

Coronel can't drive there:
6) eligible drivers: those who have taken part at least to 70 percent of the events of their own national championships; FIA WTCC competitors will not be eligible Touringcartimes.com has some info about possible STCC drivers to participate. |

I've done two different articles on this:
SEAT to European Touring Car Cup, 2005-07-14, 19:11:25 The BTCC SEAT´s are set to compete in the European Touring Car Cup which will be held at Vallelunga this autumn. Jason Plato is expected to take part in the race, but not only British SEAT´s are expected to take part. "I have suggested to all the teams running our cars in Europe - in Britain, Italy, Denmark and Finland - that they should go to Vallelunga. We believe that the event is a good idea and we would very much like to win it," Jamie Puig from SEAT said. Rules for the event states that to be able to compete in the cup, the driver must compete in 70% of the races in a national series. This is to prevent WTCC drivers to compete. Source: Autosport STCC teams to Vallelunga ETC Cup, 2005-09-25, 10:32:03 The FIA European Touring Car Cup is getting closer. The race will be held on the 16:th of October at Vallelunga, Italy. There are many drivers from many countries that are expected to show up in this race. But with the recent end of the STCC finale we will look in to which STCC teams that are expected to arrive. The Honda of Tomas Engström is since long confirmed for the race. He will get assistance from the JAS WTCC Honda team. Johan Stureson is another driver already confirmed for the race. He will be there in his Peugeot 407 prepared by IPS Motorsport. The newly crowned STCC champion team West Coast Racing are not officially confirmed, but very likely to attend. Göransson mentioned at the STCC final that it is their aim to race at Vallelunga, hopefully with both cars for Göransson and Björk. The Alfa Romeo team of Mattias Andersson is also expected to be there. The Volvo team of Robert Dahlgren and Edward Sandström have expressed interest in the race. A official decision is not yet taken, but hopefully both cars will be at Vallelunga in October. The same goes for the new STCC Mercedes team of Tobias Johansson and Hans Simonsson. Johan Meissner |

Ari Laivola will race at Vallelunga. Just like in Finnish Super2000Race series Sarlin Race Team will run Laivola's SEAT Toledo.

There were rumours saying that countries without national S2000 championships (France, Spain,...) could name drivers for European touring car cup, is it confirmed?

What is the definition of a FIA WTCC competitor out of interest? Since Plato did compete in 4 events.

See Valker's earlier post which was a quote from the FIA ETCC website (www.fiaetcc.com), specifically FIA WTCC competitors will not be eligible.
I'm in two minds about if Plato should be allowed to race. On one hand he's not a full-time WTCC driver, on the other I'm not sure it's in keeping with the spirit of the event. It's a chance for less well known/funded mostly independent drivers to shine, not another pot-hunting exercise for works teams. |

How many of these largely Independent teams can afford to go to Vallelunga? So in theory, perhaps next year, manufacturers could work/sched hard enough to have their Works team compete in the WTCC and in a national championship to qualify for the Vallelunga race?

SEAT are trying to enter Jason Plato on the basis that he's not a full-time WTCC entrant. I believe the FIA are going to relax the rule slightly so that the drivers who made a one-off guest appearance at their local WTCC round would not be excluded. The question is how much relaxation should there be. Plato has done 3-4 rounds this year, is that too much to be considered an occation entry. |

Well, that's just as many rounds as Thomas Jager, so would dropped drivers get a look in too? (hypothetically speaking).
My bet's on Schlappi, assuming MG (Germany) go. |

There's something about Proteam and ETC Cup at racingworld.it but once again, I don't speak Italian and babelfish translation is rubbish.

So much for no WTCC competitors...definately 2 full seasoners in there!
I think that makes Coronel and Zanardi the favourites IMO. |
