Test In The West
Tommorow, the first offical action for 2004 starts with the Test In The West! The first few days will be at Homestead-Miami Speedway, then a week off then it's down to Phoenix for the next few days. We'll be bringing you all the news, times and hopefully photos as it happens
You can listen to it live on the IMS radio network. Best of luck to the teams and drivers! |

Good job mate!
Strangely, IRL website says nothing about this albeit important event. After all it's the season offstart, the first official event in 2004 open wheel motorsport |

I'm really looking forward to seeing official times from Homestead. The new layout made the Cup cars race a helluva lot better - from being one of the dullest and most boring races on the schedule, the 2003 race at Homestead was the direct opposite and one of the best races all year long - and I can't even imagine how the IndyCars will perform there now with the variable banking system

The IPS cars are on track!
...or, should be. Heavy rain is putting the on track action on hold right now. |

Thiago Medeiros had the fastest lap with 184.352 before the rain came.

Here are the times from the IPS session. Looks like only five drivers got a chance to drive, the rain must have came quite early.
Pos Driver Diff Time Speed Lap C/E/T Status 1 Thiago Medeiros (11) 28.9988 184.352 33 D/I/F 2 Paul Dana (91) 0.2522 29.2510 182.763 45 D/I/F 3 Marty Roth (4) 0.3458 29.3446 182.180 38 D/I/F 4 Brad Pollard (24) 0.7395 29.7383 179.768 55 D/I/F 5 Jesse Mason (3) 0.8392 29.8380 179.168 41 D/I/F |

Its good to live in Florida, there only getting a nice warm rain, from the same storm thats going to dump a foot of snow up here!
How do these speeds compare with last years, or is it to early to tell? |

Even though it's only the IPS guys - whom I don't even get to see on TV here in Sweden - it's great to see some official test times. A sure sign the new season is creeping closer.
Just noticed they have live timing and scoring available, over at http://www.indyracing.com/indycar/ |

Considering they went from a mere six degress to twenty (if you run up high), I'm not too surprised about the big difference in speeds myself
The best part about the reconstruction is that the variable banking created multiple grooves right away - most people expected the NASCAR race to be a parade, but they went two and three wide within a couple of laps. I expect the IndyCar race (and the IPS race too for that matter) to provide much of the same. |

Yup, 9am ET is 2pm GMT (and 3pm CET, which is the timezone I'm in).
Goodie, should make my afternoon at work a little more interesting |

Motorsport.com has put up some press conferences. I haven't had a chance to read them all yet myself, but the Manning/Taylor/Matsuura/Carpenter one was a good read

I just read them in full - plenty of interesting stuff, both in regards to the drivers' thoughts on the new season, the new Homestead configuration and also the current circus regarding CART.
Quite a few segments that are very funny as well, like when they talk about Kanaan's wedding (during which Tony apparently had a tad too much to drink lol) |
