Invincible should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
A Decade of Super Touring in the BTCC

Well I believe there has never been a proper book on the history of the BTCC's Super Touring days, So I want to put that right and create a book on the history of Super Touring from 1991-2000.

What I need is

The top 10 finishers in every BTCC race from 91-2000
The top 3 independent finishers in every BTCC race from 92-2000
Photos of BTCC cars from 1991-2000 (I especially need the championship winning cars for the front cover)
Driver profiles of top BTCC drivers in the Super Touring era
Guides to the tracks used in the BTCC from those years
and....all of the people involved in this project will have their name put in the book!

I hope you take this seriously because i'm only 14 and a budding motorsport journalist, so if this takes off then you may see this book in all good book stores in the near future!

Ironically, Invincible, I feel like joining the same field of jobs!! That really would be a lot of fun to make and I would be willing to help out. I have the review tapes from 1991-1997 and my collection is growing so I will be willing to help by all means!

Hang On!

I've actully already got a book called "Touring Cars" by John Tipler.

It's got a lot in it about the 90's seasons in the BTCC, especial '96 (all about Frank Biala winning in 4WD and all that) and a bit about the first half of 1007, but no more BTCC seasons after that.

I'd never seen it before, but I got it in Merry Hill at Christmas time when me brother spoted it!

Greg.

I've never seen it before, but they're bound to have it somewhere else.

ps. I meant 1997 in the last quote not 1007, sorry!

Well because Super Touring died out in the BTCC, it's based on the BTCC, I need for the front cover all the championship winning cars of the Super Touring era
so I need:

WILL HOY'S LISTERINE VLM BMW M3 OF 91
TIM HARVEY'S LISTERINE VLM BMW 318i OF 92
JO WINKELHOCK WARSTEINER SCHNITZER BMW 318i OF 93
GABRIELE TARQUINI'S ALFA ROMEO 155 OF 94
JOHN CLELAND'S RML CAVALIER OF 95
FRANK BIELA'S AUDI A4 OF 96
ALAIN MENU'S WILLIAMS RENAULT LAGUNA OF 97
RICKARD RYDELL'S VOLVO S40 TWR OF 98
LAURENT AIELLO'S RML NISSAN PRIMERA OF 99
AND ALAIN MENU'S PRODRIVE FORD MONDEO OF 2000

And driver profiles, of nearly all the competitors of the Super Touring era!

I know where you can get some of those pics online but there could be a problem with the copywrite.

Hmm i can do a lot of research online since i'm 5 hours back from the U.K!
I'll take Paul Radisich...
I can do a lot of the guys from 1992-1994. I will probably have a problem with the privateers, though.

If you're really, really serious about doing this, then copyright on pictures won't necessarily be a problem. It will be a question of extracting permission from the copyright holder (usually an agency, but sometimes the individual photographer), and then the copyright holder will extract a fee, which is usually some nominal sum.

They are realistic about this - they hold the copyright in order for their work to earn money, but by the same token, they know that there is a limit to what they can charge before your book becomes unprofitable.

The two biggest agencies are LAT and Sutton Photographic. Sutton are based near Silverstone, while LAT are in Teddington, Middlesex, and hold the rights to all the pictures in Haymarket's archive.

That's everything that was photographed for Autosport, Autocar, Motor, Classic & Sportscar and Motor Sport...

Don't forget the National Motor Museum library down at Beaulieu. They have been very helpful in the preparation of my own project. They may also be a little cheaper than the commercial agencies.

Best of luck!

By the way - a spot of advice from a statistics nut.

If you can, go for the full results of each race, not just the top-tens. DNFs and their causes are always interesting, winners speeds also.

All of these sorts of things help to make the book unmissable for the dedicated fan. The whole point of getting the book in the marketplace is to help open the enthusiast's wallet! It's not too difficult to find information on the races Smokin' Jo Winkelhock won - the secret is in supplying race positions for - say - Nigel Smith's HMSO Cavalier. And that might make all the difference to a sale.

After all, there are plenty of F1 enthusiasts - myself included - who are prepared to pay £60 a time for Paul Sheldon's Grand Prix stats books, and they don't even have any pictures in them at all!

If you want full results go for the 'Touring Car Year' Annuals. They are always informative, and have profiles of the teams and drivers. Good luck!

Since we're on the topic of touring cars and books, this book was released just back in May. It is about Ford's Touring Car efforts since the '50-'90s!!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...879786-6243801

Hey, can anyone locate a cheap copy of John Tipler's Touring Car Racing for me? Thanks ahead.

I bought a copy for £2 at Donington Market but it was a few years ago but its worth a go i'd say the stall had loads of motorsport books on sale at low prices!

Hey Invincible, since I'm in Canada, it's a bit difficult for me to check at Donington market. Will you visit the market very soon? If so, could you keep your eye out for a cheap/good condition copy of the book? If so, could you get it for me? I would willingly reimburse you. Thanks ahead.

Great idea, Invincible, best of luck. I do wonder though if this might be best tackled as a website ? The road to getting a book published would be long and expensive - whilst a website would be a lot quicker, easier and less expensive

Good luck with the book mate, it would be so much better as a book cos you can keep it forever, and it dosen't cost anything to look at each time you want to, unless its in a libary

I've been trying to get some support up for a re-run of the Touring car Annual, a combined 2000 and 2001.

I Think a website is the way to go. I have done some research into the 1991 season, and have come up with alot of stuff, but there are still a lot of holes before I can write it up into an article.

Sources for information thus far have been Still Photography, Lawsworld and GEL Motorsport.

Here is what I have so far. Can anyone help fill in the missing details? Maybe you have the race reports in Autosport? Maybe you could scan them in. Perhaps you can remember something great from that season that deserves a place in the season review.

Anyway, I hope this is a good base to work from, I am in Australia, and am only 15, so I have never seen BTCC, due to lousy TV coverage. Everything I know is off the net.

To answer your blanks, I happened to have watched my BTCC 1991 review video about 3,212 times so I know all of the info. (By the way, isn't this ironic that I'm 13 and know all of this stuff? I manage to surprise myself when I do this.)

Round 3 was Donington and Steve Soper won, with Cleland second, and I think Frank Sytner was 3rd and Gary Ayles 4th.
Round 6 was Brands Hatch and Tim Sugden won the race after a big battle with Will Hoy. The review video shows very little of this race, but that's all I know of it.
Round 9 was at Oulton Park, John Cleland winning, Will Hoy second, Steve Soper 3rd, Andy Rouse 4th, Ray Bellm 5th, and I think Jonathan Palmer 6th.
Round 8 was a doubleheader at Donington, with Andy Rouse winning the first race after Will Hoy over-revved the engine on a downshift at the chicane, damaging his engine. I think Steve Soper was 2nd, and John Cleland 3rd, with Palmer 4th.
Rouse won the second race too, as a huge accident with John Cleland, Jeff Allam, Nick Whale (who is this guy) and Mark Hales all going off on oil from Whale's car and colliding into it, reducing the field to 10 cars. Steve Soper had a fuel pump problem, and he retired on the 3rd lap I believe. Ray Bellm was 2nd, and Robb Gravett, the defending champion, passing Jonathan Palmer on the last lap to finish 3rd.

I'm having a writer's block about round 10. I'm sure when I see it I'll remember it.

I'M LOST FOR WORDS.
I have photos of every competitor from 1991.
I am a regular visitor to the ten-tenths forum and am listed in the ten ten-tenths directory under BTCC photo's.
And people talk about using SUTTON PHOTOGRAPHIC and LAT???
The words money and sense spring to mind....
As I have said many times before....
TRY ASKING.......
