iRacing anyone?
I've just seen a couple of posts on another thread. If you haven't tried it you seriously ought to. Not many cars or tracks yet but the immersion and feedback is incredible. Seems expensive but is well worth it IMO. Dangerously addictive stuff!

Looks overpriced to me, I'm not going to touch it with a bargepole for the forseeable future.

Great concept, but will definatley need more tracks and cars to get my attention. Not only do you pay a monthly fee but also have to buy cars and tracks!

i'm trialling it atm, got a months subscription for $20 but the cost of cars and tracks is taking the ****. if you get the whole lot that they have right now, it'd cost you $90 cars and $280 tracks.
sorry, but **** that. i'll stick to rfactor thanks. it plays really well and i love the interface, but no way is it worth that amount of cash. |

I could live with the monthly fee, but to have to pay for cars and tracks is a joke.
I would predict that in the future, that iracing will drop these extra fees if they want this to take off on the scale they want. Are there plans for UK circuits ? |

And then you see that the anual subscription gives you $60 to buy cars and tracks

it's expensive to buy cars and tracks . but there aren't really really interesting cars to buy either .. i'm not that interested in oval racing .. so it's just the Radical and maybe a formula but the biggest problem for me .. i can't control what i play .. if i wanna race on a track that i bought and there's no server for it i bought it for nothing it needs leagues support . where 10-15-20 guys can buy the same cars and tracks to play toghether |

yer they give you $60 back but it's still a mother load of cash. i'm going to milk it for this month but won't be doing more until they wake up and make the additional stuff a reasonable price. if they don't, it'll die in the water as not enough people will want to use it (play is not the right word...)

Tryed it for a month and it went in the bin.. It just wasn't as fun as current games like rfactor. Also the pricing was abit steep especially for having to buy new cars and tracks when you go up ranks, but then again thats the price you pay when the devs put $10m i think. Heard everyone going on about how much better it feels, but to me it felt just the same as any other racing game feels.

This COMPANY done some great marketing, with some of their marketing ploys being very old school, ie all been done before, and still it manage to work. They even employeed the old " Send the messangers out to all Forums" trick.
WEIGH it all up, the guys posting above me clearly have, what a waste of Time and Money. IMO find a racing group who race and enjoy the same passion in cars you do, stick with them and get involved, most groups openly encourage new guys getting involved in the running and Admin of a League. |

Hmmm. Sounds like it's none too popular then! I don't know if I can justify the cost long term. I already have LFS, rFactor and GTR2, and if you could combine the best bits of all those (possibly with laser-scanned tracks), then you'd be onto a winner. Difficult to see how iRacing is going to do. It's probably in a bit of a Catch 22 situation regarding content and pricing. I have to say that In my experience though it is the best feeling racing sim I've come across, by quite a margin. I can also see why it doesn't float everyone's boat. Worth a try though.

Re wheel and pedals: depends how much you want to spend!
Logitech G25 is often regarded as the best real world option About £150 with a three-pedal setup and option to use an H-pattern shifter. Below that there is the Logitech DFP which also has 900° rotation but only two pedals and either a sequential or paddle shift option. About £75 I think. There is also a newer version, the name of which I can't remember*. Basically its the Logitech Playstation wheel but it works with PCs as well. There's also the Logitech Momo which is similar to the DFP but only has 270° turning. * Edit: Driving Force GT Last edited by Hammerdown; 29 Aug 2008 at 17:48. |

best wheel and pedals you can get has to be the Logitech G25 unless your prepared to spend loads for the custom make wheels like Frex etc.

If you go for LFS you will also be severely limited regarding track and car choice. None of the tracks are real, and only a couple of the cars. The force feedback is second only to iRacing though IMO. I got bored with the lack of real-world tracks and cars (good though the supplied ones are). I suppose the question for you is: What do you want from your racing sim? Give a list and we'll give you lots of different opinions! |

I think to be fair iRacing is definitely the most realistic driving sim out there, but as you said, it might not be as much fun as some of the others. |

I think they ought to get their basic package right to start with. The Solstice and Legends are just too few, chuck in a skip barber and it'd be pretty much sold to many people. I think the problem is the solstice and Legends just don't give enough feedback of the game.

same. i've already cancelled my subs. 2 cars and only one track a week to play online on is, frankly, rubbish. I prefer the Legend to the Solstice and would like to get experience in it before other things, but i'm not in to short ovals which is all they are giving you right now. Why not have an oval and a circuit for the same car at the same time, i mean most of this world is made up of people outside of America and oval racing just doesn't float everyone's boat :/

You can drive the legends on road courses once you get your SR up to the advanced version. I think they only have one day a week with races though. Tricky little beggar. One track per car per week suits me fine - takes me that long to get the hang of it! although I'm driving both the Skippy and the advance Solstice at the moment, so that's two cars and tracks. Mind you, I need to buy two more tracks if I want to do a full season of Skippy, and whilst I'm learning enough to keep me amused at the moment I can't see it lasting long-term unless we get some more interesting cars and some European circuits.
